Manchester United will be missing Marcus Rashford for Saturday's preseason fixture against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, Sweden, though there remains a possibility he could feature in at least one of the club's remaining summer friendlies just days afterward.
Rashford, who was involved with England through the final weekend of the 2026 World Cup, has now completed the required three-week rest period following the tournament.
That break concluded too late for him to join Michael Carrick's squad in Sweden for the final stop of the Nordic tour this weekend. However, Rashford is widely anticipated to report back on Sunday when the Red Devils travel to Dublin, Ireland ahead of their clash with Leeds United on Wednesday.
The wide attacker will have just a couple of training days before that game. So while it's conceivable he plays some role to quickly regain match sharpness, it seems more probable that his return in a Manchester United shirt won't come until at least Aug. 15. The new Premier League season kicks off with an away fixture at Hull City on Aug. 22.
Kobbie Mainoo is operating on the same schedule, while teenage sensation JJ Gabriel will also miss out on preseason action against PSG. The 15-year-old attacker, who came off the bench against Atlético Madrid last weekend, was not included in the slightly trimmed squad selected for this fixture.
Rashford in Line for Awkward Amorim Reunion
Rashford's involvement in Ireland and then Poland, where United are set to face AC Milan in a coincidental reunion with Ruben Amorim on Wednesday, carries considerable significance.
The 28-year-old hasn't featured for the club since Dec. 12, 2024, after falling out of favor with Amorim due to concerns over his attitude in training. Rashford subsequently spent the following 18 months on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona, with neither club opting to make the move permanent.
A reported release clause that permitted any club outside of Liverpool or Manchester City to sign him for a fixed fee of $54 million (£40 million) is also believed to have since lapsed.
Rashford contributed 28 goals and assists for Barcelona throughout the 2025–26 campaign, but alternative deals for younger wingers Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi proved more financially viable for the Catalans, who continue to carefully balance their finances.

Despite the player's desire to remain at Camp Nou beyond last season, Carrick never ruled out a reintegration—United still require a left winger to bolster quality and depth—and a transfer elsewhere now appears increasingly unlikely.
Rashford is at least returning to a different environment than the one he departed under difficult circumstances.
His current contract, which entitles him to a pay increase this season due to the club's Champions League qualification, is not set to expire until June 30, 2028.
