The Three Most Likely Landing Spots for Alex Scott—Which Club Will Win the Race?

The Three Most Likely Landing Spots for Alex Scott—Which Club Will Win the Race?

The future of Bournemouth standout Alex Scott remains up in the air amid considerable transfer speculation, with Chelsea reportedly "leading the race" to secure the highly sought-after midfielder's signature.

The 23-year-old's impressive rise at the Vitality Stadium has caught the eye of Europe's top clubs, while also earning him a call-up to England's senior national team for the current international break.

Scott shone on his full England debut during a commanding 7–0 victory over Croatia, showcasing once again his exceptional combination of athleticism, determination and elegance in the middle of the park.

Chelsea's persistent pursuit of the talented midfielder resulted in multiple bids during the most recent transfer window, all of which Bournemouth promptly turned down—with reported offers exceeding $79 million (£60 million).

According to the Telegraph, the Blues are set to reignite their pursuit of Scott in the months ahead and currently hold the advantage over Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for his signature.

Although Bournemouth have seemingly ruled out selling their prized midfielder in January, Chelsea are prepared to be patient until next summer, by which point Scott will have just one year left on his deal.

With several clubs vying for his services, though, where will Scott ultimately land?

3. Arsenal

Bruno Guimarães

One of Scott's reported admirers, Arsenal, would represent a hugely attractive destination. After all, opportunities to join the reigning Premier League champions don't come around often.

Playing time, however, is a factor Scott would need to carefully consider, as competition for starts at the Emirates Stadium is fierce.

Arsenal already possessed an enviable array of midfield talent before last summer's window. Declan Rice remains the standout figure, but Myles Lewis-Skelly, Mikel Merino, Martin Ødegaard, Martín Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze and the versatile Kai Havertz form an impressive supporting cast.

The battle for minutes in north London has grown even more intense with the addition of Bruno Guimarães, who brings yet another dimension to Mikel Arteta's engine room.

Arsenal undoubtedly have more urgent areas of the squad to address, particularly the left wing and centre-forward positions. Scott would be a fine signing, but arguably an indulgent one.

2. Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister

Unlike Arsenal, Liverpool are genuinely in need of greater quality and depth in midfield.

At present, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are the three key figures in the double pivot. Trey Nyoni is a promising academy product but is only 19, while Wataru Endō is largely considered a backup option for difficult moments.

Having focused last summer on strengthening their attack and backline, the Reds are widely expected to pursue a new midfielder in upcoming windows.

There is a clear desire for a specialist defensive midfielder given Liverpool's recurring defensive vulnerabilities, but Scott is hard to overlook when considering midfield targets.

Andoni Iraola is the coach who helped elevate Scott to prominence at Bournemouth, and Liverpool are well aware that the midfielder would flourish in the Spaniard's high-energy pressing system.

What has set Scott apart at Bournemouth is his capacity to contribute on both sides of the ball, with few better all-round midfielders currently operating in the Premier League.

There is little question he would make Liverpool a stronger side.

1. Chelsea

Xabi Alonso

Chelsea are also in need of midfield reinforcements following a disappointing conclusion to the summer window. Having lost Enzo Fernández at the last moment and failing to land Lamine Camara as a replacement, they are worryingly short of options in the middle of the park.

Moisés Caicedo's early-season injury problems have laid bare Chelsea's lack of depth, with Valentín Barco, Jordan Henderson, Roméo Lavia, Reece James and Malo Gusto offering little reassurance in his absence—with the latter two also required to fill in defensively when needed.

It appears all but certain that Xabi Alonso will be handed at least one midfield signing this winter. The Telegraph report that any move for Scott would not affect a separate deal for Camara, who looks a more realistic January addition than the Bournemouth man.

With Chelsea content to wait until next summer for Scott, Stamford Bridge looks the most likely destination.

Scott would be stepping into a youthful and ambitious squad, guided by one of the most compelling managers in world football. Regular game time would be assured, and he would be afforded greater attacking licence than at Arsenal or Liverpool, thanks to Caicedo's defensive reliability.

It seems only a matter of time before Chelsea substantially increase their previous bids for Scott.
