Thomas Muller Issues Chilling Five-Word Threat to Messi Before Explosive MLS Showdown

Thomas Müller has become the newest football icon to transition to MLS during the later stages of his career, signing with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Since joining MLS, Müller netted his debut goal for the Whitecaps in his inaugural start. The German and Bayern Munich icon has displayed excellent form and has already delivered a playful challenge to the league's most prominent star: Lionel Messi.

During an MLS interview, Müller looked back on his previous encounters with Messi, admitting he wasn't certain about the exact factors behind his success against the Argentine. He then couldn't help but deliver an amusing threat.

"I will hunt you again," he smiled.

Müller has triumphed in seven of eight official encounters against Messi. Notable victories include Germany's triumph over Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final and Bayern Munich's devastating 8–2 demolition of Barcelona in the 2019–20 Champions League quarterfinals.

Despite this, Müller continues to heap praise on Messi, even declaring him the greatest footballer of all time.

"For me, Messi is the greatest player that we have in this game," Müller stated. "I think my first 10 years as a professional player I always went for Cristiano [Ronaldo] if there was a GOAT debate. Now I'm a little bit older, a little bit more romantic. I go more for the style than only the performance, the work ethic. After Messi won the World Cup with Argentina, I go for him."

With Müller's arrival in Vancouver, the club is positioned to build upon what has already been an outstanding 2025 campaign. They currently occupy third place in the MLS Western Conference table and, earlier this year, they knocked out Messi's Inter Miami in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals.

Miami has shown improvement as the season has progressed, however. The Herons have reached the 2025 Leagues Cup final and hold sixth position in the MLS Eastern Conference standings with three matches remaining.

However, the only possibility for a Müller versus Messi clash this season would be if Vancouver and Miami meet in the MLS Cup final—which would be an enticing scenario.

Messi is anticipated to extend his deal with Miami while Müller holds a Designated Player option for 2026. Both players will likely remain in MLS next season, giving supporters hope that these two football legends will cross paths during the upcoming campaign.
