Thomas Tuchel Delivers Brutal Marcus Rashford Reality Check Despite England's Andorra Victory

England boss Thomas Tuchel has acknowledged that Marcus Rashford has found it challenging to meet expectations while representing the national team.

Brought back into the England squad following Tuchel's appointment earlier this year, Rashford has featured from the start in all three matches he's been available for—an injury sidelined him in June—yet he remains without a goal under the new manager's tenure.

Saturday's 2–0 victory against Andorra wasn't England's most convincing display, but supporters still expressed disappointment with Rashford's contribution, as the forward also battles to impress Barcelona boss Hansi Flick after his summer move on loan from Manchester United.

Though Tuchel commended Rashford's professionalism and conduct away from the pitch, he acknowledged the winger's match performances require enhancement.

"In my view, he's definitely a left-sided player," Tuchel explained. "That's the position we used him in today. He was given license to drift inward, not just to challenge the wing-back in their five-man defense, but to operate more centrally against their center-back.

"I believe the right flank was more dynamic and discovered better spaces. So I feel he was disadvantaged by that today. He had a fantastic week in training, and it was clear we wanted to start him because his preparation on the left side was excellent.

"I can observe his efforts. This is what matters most to me, that he maintains positivity and currently trains with the proper mindset and enthusiasm.

"He's finding it difficult with statistics and delivering standout displays in England colors."

Rashford will be eager for another opportunity to shine against Serbia on Tuesday as he looks to gain confidence before returning to Barcelona, where he's been limited to just one starting appearance this campaign.

The 27-year-old's ability to play multiple positions was praised as a key factor in Barcelona's decision to acquire him. Rashford's debut came as emergency striker cover, but he's now behind Ferran Torres in the hierarchy and has reverted to the left wing role where Tuchel considers him most effective.
