Manchester United shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain as their preseason campaign continued, extending their unbeaten run in summer friendlies to three matches following a defeat to Wrexham back in July.
Facing the reigning European champions—albeit a depleted side as World Cup players continue to return to their clubs in phases—was always going to be the most demanding challenge of the summer for Michael Carrick's squad.
United themselves are still not at full capacity and will be frustrated to have conceded so early, with Ibrahim Mbaye's clever movement in the box proving too difficult for Ayden Heaven to follow, as he connected with Dro Fernández's delivery from the left flank.
The Red Devils drew level on 32 minutes through a composed left-footed finish from Bryan Mbeumo, struck low across the face of goal. PSG's 16-year-old left back Axel Koukaba had carelessly surrendered the ball to Amad Diallo in a threatening position, a tough moment for the young defender.

Mbeumo created further opportunities in the opening half—including a free kick that Matvey Safonov brilliantly clawed away from the top corner—and United went into the interval having surpassed PSG in shots, shots on target and touches inside the opposition box.
Mbeumo continued to trouble Safonov after the restart, with United maintaining their pressure on the French giants following that early setback.
The Russian shot-stopper also kept out Harry Maguire before being substituted, and it was United who looked the more likely side to snatch a late winner, with efforts from Tyler Fletcher, Shea Lacey and Bruno Fernandes either missing the target or being blocked.
Need for Third Midfield Signing Still Exists
Reports emerged this week suggesting that securing a third central midfielder this summer is no longer a certainty, as club executives weigh up how to allocate the remaining transfer funds.
One option being considered is repositioning Mason Mount into a more traditional central midfield role rather than his usual No. 10 or wide forward berths—something Carrick has already been trialling during the summer.
Mount had shown promise in that deeper role during earlier friendly outings. However, the critical condition for him to be a genuine contender for the position is staying fit, with availability having been the former Chelsea man's biggest issue over the last three seasons.
It was therefore concerning to see Mount withdrawn after just 20 minutes, seemingly indicating discomfort in his foot. He was able to jog off the pitch and had a brief exchange with medical staff before making his way to the dressing room. The issue didn't appear to be serious, but it was enough for Mount, Carrick and the backroom team to take precautions given his track record with injuries.
Regardless of who it is, a single injury in midfield could still leave United dangerously thin in that area. Given the circumstances, failing to add further reinforcements would be a gamble.
Bruno Fernandes Returns
This match marked Bruno Fernandes's first preseason appearance following Portugal's exit in the World Cup round of 16. The United skipper, who broke the Premier League single-season assist record in 2025–26, was introduced as part of a five-player substitution made by Carrick on the 64th minute.
Those changes also gave Youri Tielemans an unofficial 'debut' following his post-World Cup break and an initial week of training with his new teammates.
Full-backs Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui were also among those in red making their first appearances since the World Cup. PSG similarly brought on Marquinhos, Vitinha, João Neves and Nuno Mendes from the bench in the second period.
United were without Matheus Cunha, who has been dealing with illness in recent days. He is expected to link up with the squad in Ireland—where the team face Leeds United on Wednesday—for the next stage of this northern European tour. Benjamin Šeško is also anticipated to join then, having sat out all preseason fixtures so far while working on his fitness at the club's Manchester base.
Goalkeeper Situation Taking Time to Warm Up
Of all positions in the squad, goalkeeper remains the one that looks furthest from its expected shape when the Premier League season kicks off away at Hull City in just a fortnight.
Veteran third-choice Tom Heaton started in goal for the third time in four summer matches. The 40-year-old had been sharing duties with Radek Vítek until recently, when the Czech youngster departed for Middlesbrough on a permanent deal.
Heaton produced a superb double save in the first half but picked up an injury shortly after the restart and was replaced by Dermot Mee.
Vítek's spot in the squad was filled by 18-year-old Fred Heath, with United still awaiting the return of Senne Lammens and new backup Karl Darlow—first and second choice respectively.
Lammens had been due to return following his post-World Cup rest, with Belgian compatriot Tielemans also involved. However, a minor illness delayed his comeback. The Premier League's Signing of the Season award winner will instead join the group in Ireland.
Whether Lammens will be fit to feature on Wednesday so soon after resuming training—and how significant Heaton's injury proves to be—remains to be seen. It may well be that Mee gets another unexpected opportunity against Leeds.
