Three Stars Who Might Flee Barcelona in the Wake of Araujo's Departure

Just as Barcelona had fallen unusually silent in the summer transfer window, Ronald Araújo completed an unexpected move to Liverpool—and more players could follow the former skipper out of Catalonia before Deadline Day.

Araújo joined the Reds on a season-long loan after two difficult campaigns under Hansi Flick at Camp Nou. The defender saw his most significant minutes as an emergency forward in 2025–26, perhaps the clearest sign of his diminishing role at Barcelona.

Rather than endure another season on the fringes, Araújo made Anfield his new base for the upcoming season, aiming to strengthen Liverpool's thin defensive options. The Catalans, meanwhile, were more than willing to move on from the Uruguayan, who managed only 11 starts in the club's La Liga title defense.

Barcelona will be looking to move on several more players before the 2026–27 season gets underway. There are also some players the club can ill afford to lose, yet may have little say in the matter.

Ferran Torres

Just a few months back, Barcelona had planned to bring in Atlético Madrid forward Julián Alvarez as a successor to Robert Lewandowski. The Argentine was set to join Ferran Torres in the club's attack, signaling the dawn of a new chapter.

Fast forward past the World Cup and Alvarez appears to be remaining in the Spanish capital—though reportedly not by his own choice—while Ferran has allegedly reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard, whose profile soared after netting the World Cup-winning goal for La Roja, turned his focus to the reigning European and French champions after Barcelona made no effort to offer him a new deal.

Selling Ferran would generate some welcome revenue, but it would also leave Flick without a natural first-team striker. Should the deal go through, Barcelona will need to act quickly to bring in a forward—or risk having Anthony Gordon or Karim Adeyemi pressed into leading the attack.

Marc Casadó

Marc Casadó was once considered a shining talent from La Masia, but he slipped down the pecking order following a serious knee injury in March 2025. Upon his return, he found himself behind the likes of Marc Bernal, Eric García, and eventually Gavi in Flick's plans.

The battle for playing time will only intensify if Rodri completes his widely anticipated move from Manchester City. Casadó, however, may not even be at Barcelona by the time that transfer potentially comes to fruition.

The 22-year-old was absent from Barcelona's trip to Italy for the club's triangular preseason tournament and has been training separately this week. Casadó has been linked with Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal, and Flick appeared to confirm the midfielder's imminent departure, stating: "Decisions have to be made."

Héctor Fort

Héctor Fort is another La Masia product who could be heading away from Catalonia. The 20-year-old returned this summer following a loan stint at Elche, but failed to do enough to secure a place in Flick's squad.

Jules Koundé is once again set to be the German coach's first-choice right back, and João Cancelo is also expected to re-sign with the club. Additionally, the rise of Xavi Espart gives Flick a backup option on the right flank when required.

There is simply no longer a place for Fort at Camp Nou. The full-back has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, most recently Premier League outfit Fulham. The Spaniard could become the next young La Liga talent Álvaro Arbeloa lures to Craven Cottage, though recent reports suggest Fort is hesitant to depart Barcelona.
