Tom Brady Unleashes Brutal Attack on Wayne Rooney and Birmingham City Squad, Calling Them 'Lazy and Entitled' in Explosive New Docuseries

Birmingham City part-owner Tom Brady delivered harsh words about the Blues' previous manager Wayne Rooney and criticized the squad's key performers.

The NFL icon takes the spotlight in a fresh Amazon Prime documentary series. Built In Birmingham: Brady & the Blues chronicles Birmingham City's setbacks and victories across the past two seasons, beginning with their drop to League One during 2023–24.

The five-episode documentary showcases Brady's live commentary on the club's earlier difficulties, beginning with Rooney's tenure in 2023.

"I have some concerns about our manager's [Rooney's] dedication to work," Brady stated. "I mean, I'm not sure, I don't have positive feelings about that."

Rooney took the position in Oct. 2023, merely two months following Knighthead Capital Management LLC and Tom Wagner's acquisition of Birmingham City in August that year. The former England captain agreed to a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues, but remained for only 83 days.

Birmingham City dropped from sixth place in the Championship to 20th position, securing just two victories during the three months under Rooney's management. Despite dismissing the manager, the club couldn't avoid demotion.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner criticized his squad after the disappointing campaign.

"We already replaced the manager, so it comes down to the players since the coach isn't the one scoring goals on the pitch," Brady remarked.

"They showed laziness, they acted entitled and when you combine laziness with entitlement, success becomes nearly impossible," he added. "We need to remove everyone connected to losing, so I expect many departures this summer."

The Blues recovered successfully, however, and controlled League One during 2024–25, claiming the top spot and earning direct promotion to the Championship under Chris Davies. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham, along with Charlton Athletic also gained promotion to England's second tier.

Capturing the League One title represented only the first phase for Brady's Birmingham City, however. They now possess the opportunity to secure Premier League status for the 2026–27 campaign if they demonstrate their quality in the Championship.
