Tottenham Eyes Newcastle's Star Target as Backup Plan Following Eze Rejection

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank is allegedly eager to reunite with Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who is becoming increasingly frustrated with the Bees' management of his transfer situation.

Wissa has cleared his social media accounts of any Brentford references and is declining to feature for the team in an attempt to push through a transfer to Newcastle United, who are pursuing the 28-year-old as they seek to replace their own discontented striker, Alexander Isak.

The Athletic reports that Newcastle recently saw a £35 million ($47.1 million) offer rejected, which included an additional £5 million in difficult-to-achieve add-ons. Brentford have yet to set an official asking price for Wissa, who scored 19 Premier League goals in the previous campaign.

As Wissa continues his push for an exit, the Daily Mail highlights interest from former Bees manager Frank, who seeks a summer reunion with the DR Congo striker.

There are suggestions that Brentford are deliberately taking a tough stance with Newcastle because they would prefer to sell Wissa to Frank and Tottenham, considering their positive relationship with their ex-manager.

Importantly, Spurs are reportedly only interested in Wissa if they can create space in their forward line, with the report even mentioning ambitious plans to involve Richarlison in a potential swap arrangement for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze to make room for Wissa's arrival.

This option has now disappeared after Spurs failed to complete the Eze deal, allowing Arsenal to step in and secure the England star's services.

Whether Spurs will continue their pursuit of Wissa is uncertain, but the striker is understood to be entirely concentrated on finalizing his move to Newcastle in the near future.

Newcastle face urgency in signing a new striker this summer. Callum Wilson departed after his contract expired, but Eddie Howe's team were compelled to begin the season without a natural center forward following Isak's own standoff over his desired switch to Liverpool.
