Tottenham Seals Second Major Acquisition Under Thomas Frank's Leadership

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the acquisition of 20-year-old centre-back Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, marking the second addition under newly appointed head coach Thomas Frank.
The North London club had previously strengthened Frank's roster by securing a reduced-price transfer for Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich following an impressive six-month loan spell in the latter part of last season, successfully negotiating the German giants down from their initial £50 million ($68.1 million) asking price to £30 million ($40.8 million).
Following this acquisition, Takai becomes the inaugural fresh addition of the Frank tenure. The young Japanese defender has committed to a five-year deal and, as reported by BBC Sport, is expected to feature in Tottenham's first-team setup for the upcoming campaign.
Sources indicate that Spurs have invested £5 million ($6.8 million) to secure Takai's services, a player who boasts four international appearances for Japan and earned recognition as the J.League's outstanding young talent in 2024.
The tall defender, who possesses versatility on the right flank, reinforces a Tottenham defensive unit that has also welcomed Kevin Danso through his obligatory permanent transfer this summer.
Promising prospect Luka Vušković has finally arrived at the club, two years after his initial agreement was reached. The 18-year-old defender spent the previous season on loan in Belgium with Westerlo, where he made a remarkable impact by netting seven goals from his centre-back position.
Tottenham are seeking to strengthen their attacking options and maintain strong interest in Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and West Ham United's Mohammed Kudus.
While Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo remains highly regarded, the forward has clearly expressed his desire to move to Manchester United this summer. Consequently, Frank is reportedly not actively pursuing a potential reunion with the Cameroonian striker.
