Tottenham Strikes Massive Deal: Star Player Sold to Premier League Powerhouse for Record Fee

Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly reached an agreement to transfer winger Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, with the Welsh player now needing to make a decision about his career path.

Spurs invested £47.5 million ($64.1 million) to acquire Johnson from Nottingham Forest in 2023, however he has fallen in the hierarchy following the summer hiring of manager Thomas Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou.

Frank has determined that Johnson doesn't fit into his future plans for the team and, according to The Athletic, a deal has been finalized to transfer Johnson to Palace for £35 million.

Importantly though, Johnson hasn't yet approved the transfer and must now choose whether to join the Eagles, compete for his position at Spurs or await interest from another club.

Palace identified Johnson as their primary objective for the January transfer period but the 24-year-old is believed to have multiple potential destinations this winter. With a valuation now established, those interested clubs could soon make their moves.

Johnson 'Very Important' Despite Peripheral Role

Adding to Johnson's decreased playing time is the summer signing of Mohammed Kudus, who has become the consistent starter in Johnson's favored right wing position and has validated that trust with six assists and two goals across 17 Premier League matches.

Johnson found the net in both of his initial two outings as an improvised left winger at the season's start but couldn't secure a regular place in the lineup and has only six Premier League starts under Frank, who has expressed his backing for the Welsh international in public.

"I believe Brennan is very important for us," he stated following Sunday's 1–0 victory over Crystal Palace, where Johnson played five minutes as a substitute. "Perhaps he didn't receive many minutes, but regrettably, we can only field 11 players.

"We discussed it previously with Mo [Kudus], he's arrived and made his mark on that right-wing role.

"Then [on] the left, we experimented with various options. [He has] still begun quite a few matches. I believe Brennan is a valuable player for us."
