Trent Alexander-Arnold Delivers Heartfelt Tribute as Diogo Jota Makes Emotional Anfield Comeback
Trent Alexander-Arnold honored the memory of the late Diogo Jota and André Silva before Real Madrid's encounter with Liverpool.
The former Liverpool player visited Anfield on Monday night to place flowers and a red gaming controller at Jota's tribute site. Alexander-Arnold was accompanied by Xabi Alonso, Dean Huijsen and Emilio Butragueño.
The 26-year-old defender left this heartfelt message for Jota: "My friend Diogo, you are deeply missed but forever cherished. Your and André's legacy will never fade. I find joy whenever I remember you and will treasure the wonderful moments we experienced together."
Alexander-Arnold concluded with "YNWA" and "Forever 20" at the end of his tribute.
Jota and Silva lost their lives in a devastating car crash in July. The soccer world united in grief over the premature loss of the two siblings, with Liverpool choosing to permanently retire Jota's No. 20 jersey.
Alexander-Arnold, who was teammates with Jota at Liverpool for five seasons, couldn't take part in the Reds' commemorations for Jota and Silva at the start of the 2025–26 campaign; the defender transferred to the Spanish capital to join Real Madrid before the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, upon reaching Merseyside, Alexander-Arnold ensured he paid tribute to his departed friend, beginning what promises to be a deeply moving homecoming to Anfield. The England star will confront his childhood team for the first time since joining Los Blancos.
It's uncertain whether Alexander-Arnold will feature in Tuesday's match. The right-back suffered a hamstring injury in September and hasn't returned to play, although he remains available for Alonso to select.
"I'll forever cherish the club, I'll always support the club. I'll eternally be grateful for the chances and the accomplishments we shared... they'll stay with me always," Alexander-Arnold expressed before his Anfield return.
"Regardless of anything, my emotions won't alter regarding Liverpool. I have experiences there that will remain with me for life."
