Trent Alexander-Arnold's Comeback Gets Major Update as Recovery Timeline Shifts

Trent Alexander-Arnold may make his comeback to full fitness following the October international window, according to Spanish media reports, which would provide significant relief for Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old sustained a hamstring problem just five minutes into his debut Champions League appearance for the record 15-time champions, with early assessments indicating the summer signing would be sidelined for approximately six to eight weeks.

Dani Carvajal has subsequently joined Alexander-Arnold in the treatment room, with the experienced Spanish defender anticipated to miss four to five weeks due to a muscular problem sustained during the devastating 5–2 loss to city rivals Atlético Madrid.

However, there may be reason for optimism at Real Madrid, as MARCA suggests that Alexander-Arnold is projected to make his comeback after the October international fixtures conclude.

Real Madrid have a Champions League away encounter against Kairat Almaty followed by a home La Liga clash with Villarreal on Oct. 4 ahead of them—these represent the only two scheduled matches before the domestic campaign pauses for World Cup qualifying matches.

This could indicate a possible comeback for Alexander-Arnold in the match against Getafe on Oct. 19, roughly five weeks following his injury during the encounter with French side Marseille.

Real Madrid Lack Alternatives at Right Back

Raúl Asencio has been utilized at right back as a stopgap solution, but the youth product has appeared far less assured in that role compared to his performances in central defense during the previous campaign.

The multi-functional Federico Valverde has also featured in some matches at right back, particularly last season under Carlo Ancelotti, when injuries similarly affected Los Blancos. While the Uruguayan midfielder has performed adequately in the role, he has consistently expressed that he "wasn't designed to play right back."

Xabi Alonso has been compelled to elevate Real Madrid Castilla right back David Jiménez to the senior squad, at least until Alexander-Arnold becomes available again. The positive development is that the former Liverpool defender now appears highly likely to participate in the season's first Clásico, when Barcelona travels to the Spanish capital on Sunday, Oct. 26.
