Trump's Potential Appearance at 2026 World Cup Draw Sparks Speculation

The 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage draw approaches rapidly as the United States, Canada and Mexico get ready to host the biggest version of football's most prestigious competition.

The tournament will span 38 days from June 11 through July 19, 2026 and will feature 48 countries vying for the coveted golden prize—though only a select few have realistic championship aspirations. Six nations must still secure their places through playoff matches, but the other 42 will learn their destiny in the forthcoming draw.

The United States will stage most of the tournament's games and will also host the group stage draw ceremony, with President Donald Trump playing a significant role in the pre-tournament preparations thus far.

But will President Trump be present at the scheduled draw?

Fans won't have to wait much longer for the 2026 World Cup group stage draw. The ceremony will take place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on Friday, Dec. 5 at 12 p.m. ET (9 a.m. PT / 5 p.m. GMT).

The USMNT, alongside co-hosts Canada and Mexico, are already aware of which groups they'll compete in during next summer's competition, but they will shortly learn about their three group stage opponents.

There are 12 groups containing four teams each and every nation will face each other once during the group stage.

Will President Trump Appear at the 2026 World Cup Draw?

On Monday, Dec. 1, the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, announced that President Trump will attend the World Cup draw at the Kennedy Center.

Leavitt informed reporters that Trump considers the World Cup a "priority national project" that will coincide with America's 250th independence anniversary, which will be commemorated during the tournament on July 4, 2026.

Trump has maintained a visible presence throughout World Cup planning. He's made threats to withdraw host status from Democrat-controlled cities and relocate matches to other venues, though he would need approval from FIFA President and close personal friend Gianni Infantino to implement such changes.

Trump will participate in the ceremony but the Iran soccer federation will not attend. They have chosen to boycott the draw in response to restrictions on the number of U.S. visas granted to their delegation.
