Two Global Superstars Collide as Bijan Robinson Links Up With Kylian Mbappe in Epic France Meetup

The internet witnessed a "legendary" crossover on Monday as Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson made a special stop to visit the France national soccer team.

The NFL star, currently traveling through Europe during the league's offseason, journeyed just southwest of Paris to Clairefontaine, France's national training facility, for the opening of the March international window.

Robinson posed for photos with Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé, swapped jerseys, and even fitted the soccer star in a helmet and football pads—a moment NFL France described as "legendary."

Robinson and Mbappé each represent the pinnacle of talent within their respective sports.

The 24-year-old running back rushed for a career-best 1,478 yards last season, ranking fourth in the NFL, and topped the league with 2,298 yards from scrimmage, earning First Team All-Pro honors and his second straight Pro Bowl selection.

Mbappé, 27, paces Real Madrid in scoring this season with 38 goals despite having only recently recovered from a knee injury. The Frenchman has built an impressive résumé, claiming the European Golden Boot in his debut campaign with Los Blancos last year after netting 31 goals in La Liga.

On the international stage, Mbappé guided France to 2018 World Cup glory—earning the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award along the way—and claimed the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot after scoring eight goals at the Qatar tournament. The forward was appointed captain of the national side in March 2023 and will aim to lead France to further glory this summer.

What Does This Crossover Mean?

The meeting between Robinson and Mbappé reflects the shared ambitions of both sporting worlds.

The NFL has pursued an aggressive international expansion strategy over the past decade, and few things could accelerate those efforts more than a star running back connecting with the world's most popular sport and its biggest European icon in Mbappé.

The NFL has announced a record nine international games for the upcoming season, spread across seven countries and four continents. Among the highlights, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Commanders are headed to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Detroit Lions to the Allianz Arena, and the Atlanta Falcons to the Bernabéu.

Soccer, on the other hand, still trails well behind football, basketball, and baseball in terms of U.S. popularity.

With the United States set to co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, FIFA is keen to grow American interest and engagement in the sport—an effort that began with last year's revamped Club World Cup held on U.S. soil and continues through the organization's $3 million contribution to the U.S. Soccer Federation's development initiative: Innovate to Grow.

And what better way to advance those efforts than Robinson—one of the NFL's brightest stars—publicly declaring himself a soccer fan?
