Tyler Adams Makes History for USMNT in Stunning Manchester City Showdown

While Tyler Adams isn't renowned for finding the net, the United States men's national team midfielder delivered a crucial strike for AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, netting the equalizer against Manchester City.

This represented the 26-year-old's maiden Premier League goal following 64 appearances across Bournemouth and Leeds United, and marked his first club strike in any professional league since finding the target for RB Leipzig versus Mainz during a 3–2 victory in the 2020–21 campaign.

Across 283 professional matches, Adams has now tallied seven goals. The Premier League becomes the fifth different competition where he has scored, having previously found success in the USL Championship, Major League Soccer, Concacaf Champions Cup and UEFA Champions League.

For the USMNT, Adams has netted twice in 52 international appearances, scoring in two encounters against Mexico, including a 1–0 friendly victory in 2018 and a 2–0 triumph in the 2024 Concacaf Nations League final.

Manchester City took the lead in Sunday's encounter through Erling Haaland's 17th-minute opener, before Adams powered home from a corner kick in the 25th minute to restore parity for his team. The deadlock was short-lived, however, as Haaland responded with a 33rd-minute effort to give his side a 2–1 advantage at the break.

Although Adams won't emerge as a primary offensive weapon for USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino, he's expected to serve a crucial function at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with his performance level potentially determining how deep the U.S. can progress as co-hosts with Canada and Mexico.

Prior to that tournament, Adams is anticipated to feature for the USMNT in international exhibitions against Paraguay and Uruguay in November, plus the pre-World Cup matches during the March and June international periods.

The USMNT begin their 2026 World Cup campaign at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on June 12.
