USMNT Icon Shocks Fans with Bold Christian Pulisic Reversal: "He's The Best"

Alexi Lalas has abandoned his typical approach of constantly criticizing Christian Pulisic to swing to the opposite end, praising the American striker as AC Milan's finest player at present.

Lalas is a notoriously vocal detractor of everything related to the U.S. men's national team (USMNT). In 2017, the former international defender labeled Pulisic and his teammates "a group of soft, underachieving, tattooed millionaires" and has continued delivering critical commentary in the years that followed.

Similar to fellow Americans Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, Lalas was disappointed with Pulisic's choice to miss this summer's Gold Cup. The 27-year-old stated he required rest to recuperate following an exhausting European season before preparing for the 2026 World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host.

That break has already shown results. Pulisic has netted five goals in Milan's opening six matches of the new season, bringing his total to 59 in Europe's premier five leagues - a new record among USMNT male athletes.

Pulisic in Brilliant Form for AC Milan

Christian Pulisic

Lalas allowed his enthusiasm for Pulisic's excellent form to overwhelm him. Following Milan's 3–0 victory against Udinese, where a player Lalas once mockingly called "Wonder Boy" scored twice, the professional analyst stated: "I believe you are witnessing it right now, and if you require further evidence, this match provides it - he is an elite performer in Serie A. He is, I believe arguably AC Milan's top player."

Pulisic stands as Milan's only player with multiple goals this season, though Rafael Leão, who has been dealing with injury issues, would surely contest his status as the team's most crucial figure. Luka Modrić, the former Ballon d'Or recipient and six-time Champions League champion, might also dispute Lalas's assessment.

However, the enthusiastic commentator remained unwavering. "This was an extraordinary match," he added. "I believe it's something he will cherish, and Pulisic supporters, USMNT fans, and AC Milan enthusiasts can value, and I think we'll recall for years to come. Everything he contacted appeared to become golden.

"So this represented everything Christian Pulisic embodies condensed into a single match. And deservedly he is getting the recognition that such a performance, combined with what I consider consistent quality and elite displays, warrants."
