USMNT Star Breaks Silence with Heartbreaking Message Following Devastating World Cup Injury

U.S. men's national team winger Kevin Paredes faces another extended period away from action after re-injuring the same foot problem that sidelined him for most of the 2024–25 campaign.
Paredes appeared ready to establish himself in the USMNT setup after delivering standout displays at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, a foot ailment restricted him to merely two outings for Wolfsburg during the previous season.
The 22-year-old was hopeful for a new beginning this summer, but a fresh complication required surgical intervention on the identical issue. Wolfsburg announced the American would be unavailable for an "extended period" following the procedure.
Paredes used social media to voice his disappointment about the persistent injury.
"It's difficult to experience this situation once more," he posted in a message on Instagram. "Regrettably, I needed to have another surgical procedure on the same foot that sidelined me during the previous campaign."

Paredes made two appearances in April for Wolfsburg following an eight-month absence. He subsequently took part in two preseason matches before the 2025–26 campaign, accumulating 73 minutes during the summer period before experiencing discomfort in his foot once again.
The Athletic reports that Paredes is targeting a November comeback. The attacker remains hopeful he will be completely healthy and prepared with sufficient time to represent both his club and national team before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
"I stay committed to my rehabilitation and am resolved to return even stronger," Paredes stated. "I'll be back shortly, prepared to give my all for my squad!"
Nevertheless, Paredes will be absent for months of Wolfsburg action and miss at least four USMNT matches. The Stars and Stripes are scheduled to face South Korea and Japan in international friendlies during September, followed by encounters with Ecuador and Australia in October.
The winger will lose crucial opportunities to make an impression on new head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Paredes has earned just three senior international appearances, all occurring in 2023.
The American requires additional experience representing the Stars and Stripes to secure a spot on the USMNT's World Cup squad for the home tournament, making his recent injury setback particularly damaging.
