USMNT Star Striker Ruled Out for Rest of Gold Cup After Devastating Injury

The United States men's national soccer team has officially announced that forward Haji Wright will be removed from the Gold Cup squad following an injury sustained by the Coventry City player.
Wright's recent international appearances have been hampered by various injuries, though he managed to come on as a substitute and find the net during the commanding 5–0 victory against Trinidad & Tobago in the tournament opener. However, an Achilles problem prevented him from participating in the subsequent win over Saudi Arabia.
A statement from the federation has now made it official that Wright will miss the remainder of the summer competition, as his Achilles issue requires him to return to Coventry for additional medical assessment.
"It's always disappointing when a player has to leave the squad, especially since the team chemistry was excellent, and he's an outstanding individual who brings tremendous value to the group with a unique skill set," commented USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino regarding Wright's exit.

"He's versatile enough to feature in multiple attacking roles. It's certainly an unfortunate circumstance for both him and the squad, but we must focus on ensuring his proper rehabilitation."
The USMNT has already secured their spot in the tournament's quarterfinal round before their concluding group match against Haiti, where Pochettino might choose to make changes after giving Charlotte FC's Patrick Agyemang starting opportunities in the opening two fixtures.
While Wright could have received substantial playing time, Vancouver's Brian White or Köln's Damion Downs are now likely candidates to fill the void.
According to Gold Cup regulations, teams cannot bring in replacement players for injured squad members once the group phase concludes, which means the USMNT must proceed with a reduced number of attacking options.
