U.S. men's national team forward Haji Wright, who sat out Coventry City's recent pre-season friendlies against Espanyol and Monaco, has now been sidelined for as long as three months due to a "very serious" quadriceps injury.
The prolific striker will be unavailable for the start of the new Premier League campaign, dealing a significant blow to newly-promoted Coventry, who are returning to England's top division for the first time in 25 years.
"Haji Wright won't be available for the Arsenal game," club manager Frank Lampard confirmed on Wednesday, ahead of the team's season opener against the defending champions on Friday. "He won't be available for a little while, he's got a very serious quad injury which is disappointing for Haji and for us."
"It's certainly going to be a number of weeks, could even be up to 12 weeks."
Wright was a key figure in Coventry's historic rise from the EFL Championship, netting 17 league goals in 31 Championship appearances last season, finishing joint-second in the Golden Boot standings behind Swansea City's Zan Vipotnik (23) and securing a place in the Championship team of the year.
The 28-year-old's impressive goal tally earned him recognition from USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who named him in the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad. Wright featured only briefly on the global stage, however, coming on as a substitute in the 89th minute in both the group stage clash against Australia and the round of 16 encounter against Belgium.
