The Americans kick off the September–October international window with a fixture against Peru, a South American opponent they haven't faced in nearly eight years, having played to a 1–1 draw back in 2018. Peru, who failed to book their place at the 2026 World Cup, sits at No. 50 in FIFA's global rankings, making the No. 16 USMNT heavy favorites to claim all three points.
The USMNT then squares off against another South American opponent in No. 49-ranked Chile. The sides last met in 2019, also ending 1–1. La Roja actually holds the historical advantage over the Stars and Stripes (3-5-3), with the Americans failing to beat them since 2000.
Arguably the most anticipated fixture of the window follows against fierce rival Mexico. El Tri impressed on the world stage this summer at the home World Cup, finally breaking their long-standing 40-year tournament curse known as "el quinto partido" and coming agonizingly close to knocking out eventual semifinalist England in the round of 16. A victory over Mexico would not only represent Pochettino's first win over them since taking charge in September 2024, but would also serve as a powerful signal of promise for the USMNT's future.
The window wraps up with a meeting against Canada, and Jesse Marsch's side will arrive full of momentum. The Canucks made history this summer and cemented the country's status as a genuine soccer nation.
