The 2030 World Cup may still be four years out, but there's no harm in envisioning another thrilling run for the U.S. men's national team, particularly following such an impressive September-October international window.
The Stars and Stripes launched the new cycle with four victories in four friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada. A freshly assembled blend of new talent and reliable veterans handled their duties with composure, confidence and flair—all while the likes of Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Folarin Balogun sat out at home.
The international window confirmed one thing: a new chapter of the USMNT has begun. Mauricio Pochettino is handing emerging stars the chance to prove they deserve a significant role at the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted primarily across Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
These exciting young players face a steep climb in trying to unseat some of the more seasoned veterans, but the door remains wide open for these rising talents to force their way into Pochettino's XI.
USMNT Predictions: 2030 World Cup Lineup
Locks

Four years from now, several of the same Americans who guided the USMNT on home turf this summer will once again feature in Pochettino's lineup, at the height of their powers. Chris Richards is without question a starter in central defense, as is Antonee Robinson at left back.
Newly appointed captain Tyler Adams will anchor the midfield, where Malik Tillman will also reprise his role. Despite his recent struggles at Monaco, Balogun remains the man tasked with leading the attack.
Players on the Fringe

Just a few months ago, Pulisic and McKennie would have been certainties in Pochettino's XI. Both players are cornerstones of the USMNT and were among the most gifted Americans in the sport at their peak.
However, both stars—who will be 32 at the 2030 World Cup—have seen their standing diminish following this summer's tournament. Pulisic in particular finds himself on the outside looking in, desperately seeking to rediscover his best form after netting just two goals across two years under Pochettino. His ongoing goalscoring struggles for club and country—Pulisic has found the net just twice in 2026—currently keeps him out of the picture.

Then there's Gio Reyna. The midfielder has enjoyed a strong revival under Pochettino after years on the fringes of the USMNT. He injects creativity into the side and possesses a lethal right foot, but his inconsistent form and fitness issues could limit him to a supporting role.
Julian Hall and Justin Ellis also put in strong showings during this camp, but there's still considerable ground to cover before either can fully take ownership of the attack—and overtake Balogun in the process.
Neil Pierre, however, has a genuine shot at breaking into the XI. The center back is regarded as the long-term heir to Tim Ream, but he still has significant development ahead before he's ready to partner Richards against the world's elite attacks.
Pochettino's XI

GK: Brian Schwake—Matt Freese's time between the sticks appears to be behind him. Schwake emerged victorious in the goalkeeping competition during the September-October international break and looks set to be Pochettino's first-choice keeper.
RB: Alex Freeman—It's difficult to picture anyone doing enough to dislodge Freeman on the right side. The Villarreal man, who will be just 25 during the 2030 World Cup, is quick, defensively sound and an effective creator going forward.
CB: Chris Richards—If it wasn't already clear, Richards is the cornerstone of Pochettino's backline. The center back is dominant in the air, willing to put his body on the line and reads the game better than any other player in red, white and blue.
CB: Auston Trusty—Trusty is far from a guaranteed starter in Pochettino's XI, but he brings valuable experience at both the international level and in European club football. He offers reliability and consistency that the raw Pierre currently cannot match.
LB: Antonee Robinson—Like Trusty, Robinson has a young American—Peyton Miller—pushing hard for his spot, but the Fulham star has a firm grip on the left flank. He is one of the most underappreciated defenders in the Premier League and consistently delivers in big moments for the Stars and Stripes.
CM: Tyler Adams—Pochettino knew exactly what he was doing when he handed Adams the captain's armband. The midfielder leads by example on and off the field and is a fixture in the starting lineup. There's every reason to believe his third World Cup could be his finest.
CM: Sebastian Berhalter—By the time 2030 arrives, Berhalter will have cemented his place in the XI. The 25-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise under Pochettino and is simply too talented, both in midfield and in the final third, to be left on the bench. Add in his set-piece delivery, and he earns the nod alongside Adams.

RW: Sergiño Dest—The output may not be there for Dest right now, but he has more than justified his place on the right flank. His blistering pace adds an extra dimension to the team's attack and provides additional width when pushing forward.
AM: Malik Tillman—Tillman made his World Cup debut one to remember. He may have been a peripheral figure earlier in the year, but he is now an undeniable starter for the USMNT. The Bayer Leverkusen standout pulls the strings with ease and can deliver a free kick—or two—when the pressure is on.
LW: Cavan Sullivan—If the buzz around 17-year-old Sullivan is already this loud, just imagine where it will be in four years after he's established himself at Manchester City. His eye for goal will only sharpen, as will his physical development and creative output. His tenacious, hard-nosed style of play is exactly what the team needs to mount a deep World Cup run.
ST: Folarin Balogun—Red card and transfer drama aside, Balogun is the USMNT's most clinical finisher. Yes, the youngsters impressed this time around and will likely continue to improve, but how could Pochettino turn away from his top scorer, who put on a spectacular display on home soil?
