USMNT's Boldest Starting XI Takes Shape Ahead of Crucial November 2026 Showdowns

U.S. men's national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino announced his 25-man squad for the upcoming November international window on Wednesday. The standard nine-day training camp will wrap up with a two-match series against Haiti in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals, marking the Americans' first competitive fixtures since the 2026 World Cup.

The Argentine tactician wasn't quite as daring with his selections as he was the previous month, bringing back a number of experienced veterans, including Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun and Weston McKennie, all of whom were left out last time around. That said, Pochettino has still extended significant opportunities to promising young talents, among them Cavan Sullivan, Julian Hall and Mathis Albert.

The USMNT is in fine form following a flawless fall window in which it swept through four consecutive victories; however, the expectations continue to rise. The U.S. carries extraordinarily lofty ambitions for the post-World Cup era, and regional supremacy will be an absolute requirement to meet that bar. Should the Americans advance past Haiti on aggregate—a notoriously difficult side to face—they will qualify for the Nations League finals next March and also secure a direct berth into the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Pochettino will leave nothing to chance with his starting eleven in these high-stakes competitive matches. Here is how the USMNT could line up during the November international window.

USMNT Predicted Lineup for November Matches (4-3-2-1)

projected lineup

GK: Diego Kochen—Pochettino entrusted the 20-year-old Lyngby shot-stopper with a full 90 minutes against the USMNT's fiercest rival, Mexico. The Americans came away with a commanding victory, with Diego Kochen earning a clean sheet despite being called into action only once. Pochettino recognizes enormous potential in the young Barcelona academy product to become the long-term No. 1, and will be eager to put him through his paces against Haiti.

RB: Alex Freeman—One of the standout performers of the World Cup, 22-year-old Alex Freeman will hold onto his place in Pochettino's starting eleven. The Villarreal man has continued to grow in confidence domestically in Spain, cementing his starting role and impressing even the likes of Real Madrid's Galacticos with his two-way versatility, creativity and athleticism.

CB: Chris Richards—The 26-year-old may be struggling to make an impact at a faltering Crystal Palace right now; however, he remains the backbone of the USMNT's defensive line. Chris Richards is comfortably the most reliable center back available to Pochettino, leaving the manager more focused on finding the ideal partner alongside him.

CB: Auston Trusty—The 28-year-old center back—who can also operate at fullback—demonstrated his value last month after a somewhat peripheral role at the World Cup. He emerged as Richards's strongest defensive partner, distinguished by his complementary aerial ability, vocal leadership and composure in possession. Although Auston Trusty has been absent from club action at Celtic since mid-October following the passing of his father, he appears ready to return to the field.

LB: Antonee Robinson—Nobody is displacing Antonee Robinson on the left flank. The 29-year-old Fulham stalwart is getting on in years, which may explain why Pochettino has called up several new options at fullback this month. Robinson held firm on the left side during recent friendlies against Chile and Mexico, as he has done across two World Cups (2022, 2026) and numerous regional tournaments.

Pick Your USMNT XI!

CM: Weston McKennie—Back in Pochettino's squad, expect Weston McKennie to push his way back into the starting eleven as well. The midfielder has been outstanding for Serie A powerhouse Juventus this season and has been one of Pochettino's most trusted options—the only American to start all five World Cup matches this summer. He will face stiff competition from the rising Sebastian Berhalter, however.

CM: Tyler Adams—The 27-year-old is a lock in the starting lineup. Tyler Adams is the USMNT's new long-term captain, having taken over the armband from the retired Tim Ream. The Bournemouth star possesses every attribute a manager desires in a defensive midfielder. He is the ultimate team player, putting in the unglamorous work without seeking any recognition. Adams is finally receiving the credit he deserves, particularly after helping the Cherries to six consecutive wins, including dominant victories over Manchester United and AC Milan.

RW: Cavan Sullivan—The 17-year-old has done far more than simply establish himself as the future of the USMNT; he is undeniably a key figure in the present. After excelling in Major League Soccer with the Philadelphia Union since the summer, he demonstrated he can replicate that form on the international stage. Cavan Sullivan left even Pochettino in awe with his fearlessness in possession, a quality that helped him become the youngest goalscorer in USMNT history.

AM: Gio Reyna—Pochettino sees something truly special in Gio Reyna. Even when the 23-year-old attacker was warming the bench at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Argentine coach never wavered in his belief in Reyna. Now that the young star is finally enjoying regular minutes at Strasbourg, Pochettino's confidence in him has only strengthened. Reyna was the sole player to start every international match last month, and it would come as no surprise if the same pattern repeats itself this time around.

LW: Christian Pulisic—The 28-year-old superstar is finally performing at his best again, and when Christian Pulisic is in full flow, there is no question he belongs in the starting lineup. The key uncertainty Pochettino must navigate is not how much Pulisic will feature, but rather the role he will play. In the post-World Cup era, Pochettino has repeatedly stressed the importance of a "fresh start," which could well mean stepping back from Pulisic as the central figure and heartbeat of the side.

ST: Julian Hall—Teenage phenomenon Julian Hall should earn the nod at striker, even with World Cup standout Folarin Balogun pushing hard for the spot. While Balogun continues to recover from off-field controversy and a minor leg injury, Hall is in peak form. The 18-year-old Red Bull New York forward netted in each of his first three appearances for the USMNT, becoming only the third player in program history to achieve the feat and the youngest to do so globally since a young Pelé approximately 70 years ago.
