Valencia Faces Barcelona: Key Matchup Breakdown, Bold Predictions, and Expected Lineups

Valencia Faces Barcelona: Key Matchup Breakdown, Bold Predictions, and Expected Lineups

La Liga title holders Barcelona head to Mestalla to take on Valencia on Saturday evening, looking to cap off one of the finest seasons in Spanish top-flight history.

Hansi Flick's squad has commanded La Liga from beginning to end this campaign and have already etched their name in history as the first team to complete a season with a flawless home record since the league grew to 20 clubs.

A victory would lift Barcelona to 97 points, the fourth-highest total ever recorded in a single La Liga season.

Valencia, however, have far greater stakes on Saturday. The home side have won three of their last five matches, not only pulling clear of the relegation zone, but a win over Barça could propel Carlos Corberán's team into UEFA Conference League contention, provided Getafe and Rayo Vallecano both suffer defeats this weekend.

While Valencia are the side desperate for three points, Barcelona will be eager to close out the campaign on a positive note, putting the finishing touch on yet another commanding domestic season under Flick.

Despite Corberán's side showing significant improvement over the past few weeks, Barcelona still hold a clear advantage in quality and have consistently outperformed the hosts in recent encounters.

While it's true that Barça suffered a defeat in their most recent away fixture against Alavés, that match came less than 48 hours after Flick's players were out celebrating their 29th La Liga championship with a parade through the streets of Barcelona.

No such festivities will disrupt Barcelona's build-up to their season finale. Given how impressive the Catalans have been both home and away in La Liga since mid-February, Saturday's encounter should follow the same pattern—much to the disappointment of Valencia's European ambitions.

Prediction: Valencia 1–2 Barcelona

Corberán will be compelled to field a heavily patched-up XI, with Valencia resembling an infirmary at this stage of the campaign. José Luis Gayà, Renzo Saravia, José Copete, and Dimitri Foulquie have all been absent from training since the beginning of the week.

Lucas Beltrán remains sidelined after missing the last four matches with a knee problem, while fellow forward Arnaut Danjuma was only able to complete part of training as he manages his own knee complaint.

Valencia will also be missing first-choice center back Eray Cömert, who was sent off during the hard-fought 4–3 victory over Real Sociedad in their previous outing.

Due to the mounting injury list, natural midfielder Javi Guerra has been pushed into a forward role alongside Hugo Duro. Guido Rodríguez provides stability in midfield, while the center back pairing of Unai Núñez and César Tárrega will be charged with containing the most dangerous attack in Spanish football.

Valencia predicted lineup vs. Barcelona (4-4-2): Dimitrievski; Correia, Núñez, Tárrega, Vázquez; Rioja, Ugrinić, Rodríguez, López; Guerra, Duro

Barcelona continue to manage the absence of Lamine Yamal, and now Fermín López has also been ruled out after requiring surgery on a broken fifth metatarsal, an injury that will sideline him for the 2026 World Cup.

Marcus Rashford, Frenkie de Jong, and Ferran Torres all experienced minor fitness concerns over the past week, but all three have returned to training, with the first two potentially in line to start. Torres, however, may be left out to allow Robert Lewandowski to feature in what could be his farewell appearance for the club.

Flick may opt to rest Pedri and Pau Cubarsí following a demanding season, with Ronald Araújo potentially returning to the starting XI as captain.

Raphinha is expected to operate on the right flank in place of the injured Yamal.

Barcelona predicted lineup vs. Valencia (4-2-3-1): J. García; Araújo, E. García, Martín, Cancelo; De Jong, Bernal; Raphinha, Olmo, Rashford; Lewandowski.
