Van Dijk Fires Warning Shot: Liverpool Captain Promises 'Big Fight' Against Arsenal
Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has stated that embracing the challenge ahead is the sole approach to securing a positive outcome against table-topping Arsenal in this week's crucial encounter.
The North London side currently holds a six-point advantage over Manchester City at the summit after 20 matches, and remain undefeated at their home ground across all competitions since May.
This makes them a daunting adversary as Liverpool travels to the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.
"We will certainly analyze the qualities they possess. They boast an excellent roster with talent both in the starting eleven and available from the substitutes' bench," Van Dijk commented while previewing the upcoming clash.
"We're all aware that at their home venue they remain unbeaten this campaign, I believe, across all tournaments. Therefore, it presents an exciting test and we must prepare for an intense battle."
Whether the Dutch defender implies an actual physical confrontation is unclear, but Arsenal represents a physically dominant side, which has formed the foundation of their set-piece excellence in recent seasons. Van Dijk believes Liverpool must attack them directly and compete at every level.
"I'm genuinely excited about it and I believe everyone should be," he continued. "That represents the sole method to attempt securing a positive result there. There's no justification for not anticipating it eagerly, from my perspective."
'Another Chance' for Liverpool

Van Dijk describes this fixture as "another chance" for the Merseyside club. They remain one of just two sides to defeat Arsenal this campaign, securing a 1–0 triumph at Anfield in August when Dominik Szoboszlai netted the decisive goal.
Liverpool have endured several disappointing performances since that victory, and despite managing only three league victories from seven matches since early December, they've maintained an unbeaten streak across nine fixtures in all competitions.
Should the Reds manage to defeat Arsenal once more, it would strengthen their position within the Premier League's top four and potentially reignite the championship race for Manchester City, who face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium one day prior.
