Viktor Gyokeres Delivers Thrilling Promise to Arsenal Supporters: "I'll Prove Myself"

Viktor Gyökeres is thrilled to demonstrate his abilities at the elite level following his high-profile move from Sporting CP to Arsenal.

The Swedish striker has signed a five-year contract at Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners securing his services for an initial €63.5million (£54.8 million, $74.2 million) fee, potentially rising by an additional €10 million (£8.6 million, $11.7 million) through performance-related bonuses.

Gyökeres will don Thierry Henry's iconic No. 14 jersey, and expressed in his debut interview with Arsenal's official media that he's constantly seeking to find the net—a declaration that will surely delight the club's fanbase given Henry's legendary status. The 27-year-old also disclosed that he feels he has unfinished business to address in north London.

"Scoring goals is always my priority," Gyökeres commented. "Being part of this institution and finding the net wearing this jersey and representing this badge in front of all these fans, I'm eagerly anticipating it. It's going to be an incredible experience.

"I began my journey here [in England], though it seems like ages ago. I believe I've developed significantly since that time. Now I'm determined to truly demonstrate my worth and contribute alongside the squad."

Gyökeres, who netted 54 times across all competitions in 2024–25, discussed how Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta influenced his choice to sign, along with the appeal of representing a club with such a distinguished heritage.

"Representing your nation is a tremendous privilege, and scoring for your country is extraordinary. During my time at Sporting, I found the net several times in the Champions League, so I believe I can compete at that standard. Coming to a club of Arsenal's caliber, I think it will elevate my performance even further with all the exceptional talent in this squad. I'm genuinely excited to begin.

"I simply felt this was the perfect club for me. What Mikel and Andrea conveyed during our discussions, and observing their approach over recent years, their style of play. When I faced Arsenal last season, I could sense they were an incredibly formidable side and challenging opponents.

"That influenced my decision to choose Arsenal, plus naturally all the tradition this club possesses and the enormous supporter base. It's been wonderful witnessing all the backing they've already shown me before I even arrived. That's the essence of football. It will be fantastic to see them filling the stadiums too."
