Viktor Gyokeres Emerges as Major Transfer Target as Arsenal Negotiations Hit Roadblock

Viktor Gyökeres, the striker from Sporting CP, has allegedly confirmed his intention to refuse training if he doesn't receive a summer move to Arsenal.

Earlier this week, there seemed to be substantial advancement in discussions, with a long-term deal being finalized and the gap between Arsenal's offer and Sporting's asking price for the Swedish forward narrowing considerably.

Nevertheless, the entire transfer was subsequently put "at risk" when Arsenal representatives departed a negotiation session with Sporting without reaching a deal.

It's understood that only €5 million (£4.3 million, $5.9 million) stands between both parties, who have agreed on an overall fee of €80 million (£69 million, $93.8 million) but continue to disagree on payment structure, particularly regarding upfront payments.

Gyökeres is expected to rejoin pre-season preparations on Friday, but according to Fabrizio Romano, has clearly stated his intention to carry out his strike threat to push through the transfer.

The 27-year-old has personally communicated to Sporting's leadership that he will neither participate in training nor represent the club again, making his Arsenal transfer his top priority.

Discussions between both clubs haven't broken down completely and will persist as they seek a mutually beneficial resolution.

At the heart of Gyökeres's dissatisfaction is his conviction that he had a deal with Sporting president Frederico Varandas to be sold for a specific amount, reportedly around €70 million (£60.4 million, $82 million). Varandas has openly stated that Gyökeres won't be sold at that valuation.
