Viktor Gyokeres Weighs Drastic Decision as Arsenal and Man United Circle

Viktor Gyökeres, a transfer target for both Arsenal and Manchester United, is allegedly considering going on strike to secure his departure from Sporting CP during the summer window.

The Swedish striker has become the focal point of an intensifying transfer battle this summer. Recognized as one of Europe's top scorers, it was widely understood that Gyökeres would depart Lisbon in the upcoming transfer period.

Earlier this month, Sporting president Frederico Varandas expressed frustration, stating that the club refuses to sell their star player for a reduced fee of €70 million (£59.9 million, $80.8 million). Though they aren't insisting on the complete €100 million (£85.6 million, $115.5 million) release clause amount, the Portuguese title holders are seeking a figure exceeding €80 million (£68.5 million, $92.4 million).

This firm position is believed to breach an informal understanding between the player and the club, reportedly leaving Gyökeres "incensed."

That frustration continues to simmer. Portuguese publication A BOLA reports that Gyökeres is contemplating the most "drastic action" at his disposal: refusing to play. This well-established tactic used by players seeking transfers throughout football history often creates tension but doesn't guarantee the desired outcome.

Sporting is set to begin preseason preparations on July 1. Since he was originally selected for Sweden's June international matches—though he withdrew due to a minor injury—Gyökeres might reasonably return alongside his international colleagues on July 7.

The 27-year-old striker is believed to have already informed Varandas of his desire to leave this summer. Juventus has reportedly entered the competition alongside Arsenal and United for Gyökeres's services, though A BOLA indicates that Sporting has not yet received any official bids.

Should discussions extend into July, it remains to be seen whether Gyökeres will act on his alleged strike threat. Sporting's response to this impasse will be equally significant.
