After an 18-month standoff, the Vinícius Júnior contract dispute has finally been resolved, with the Brazilian forward signing a new deal that keeps him at the club through 2032.
Despite repeatedly pledging his allegiance to Madrid publicly, there appeared to be real concern that the 26-year-old star could depart the Spanish capital as the clock wound down on his contract, set to expire in June 2027.

Why Did the New Deal Take So Long?
The core of the dispute between Vinícius Jr and Real Madrid was financial. Negotiations first broke down over a year ago when the winger reportedly demanded a salary of €30 million ($34.5 million) per year, along with a "renewal bonus"—which would have placed him near the same level as the club's top earner, Kylian Mbappé.
Vinícius Jr's previous contract, announced in 2023, raised his base salary to approximately €17.5 million ($20 million) annually, plus additional bonuses.
Madrid, unwilling to meet that demand even for such a valuable asset, stood firm at around €20 million ($23 million)—an offer the player's representatives rejected, resulting in a drawn-out standoff between the two parties.
Publicly, Vinícius Jr consistently expressed his desire to stay at the Bernabéu, and in reality, there were virtually no other clubs outside of Madrid capable of matching his financial expectations.
From Madrid's perspective, even with the summer acquisition of Yan Diomande, allowing a player of Vinícius Jr's quality to leave during his peak years would have been considered a major embarrassment.

ESPN reports that Real Madrid director general José Ángel Sánchez, chief scout Juni Calafat, along with Vinícius Jr's Roc Nation agent and a close advisor, gathered on Wednesday to negotiate terms, ultimately reaching an agreement on the new contract.
It is reported that Madrid's revised offer raised Vinícius Jr's base salary and bonuses, presenting the player with a package "above €22 million ($25.5 million.)"
No confirmed figure has emerged regarding the exact amount that ultimately bridged the gap between Vinícius Jr's camp and Real Madrid. Verified player salary data—rarely disclosed publicly—remains notoriously difficult to obtain.
AS reports the figure is "close to €24 million ($27.75 million)" in total. El Confidencial, meanwhile, places Vinícius Jr's new earnings at around €25 million ($29 million), along with an enhanced share of the player's image rights.

Either way, the new agreement cements the winger's status as Real Madrid's second-highest paid player behind Mbappé, who reportedly earns €31.25 million ($36 million) per year at the club.
Jude Bellingham, perhaps predictably, ranks third among the club's top earners on a deal worth €20 million ($23 million), ahead of club captain Federico Valverde at €16.7 million ($19.2 million).
