Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid Hit Contract Deadlock as Star Winger Declares Deal 'Wouldn't Make Sense'

Negotiations between Vinícius Júnior and Real Madrid regarding a contract extension have reached an impasse following the club's rejection of the player's wage requirements.
Despite having two years remaining on his current Real Madrid deal, the Brazilian star has been engaged in contract discussions with the club since February.
Growing attention from Saudi Pro League clubs prompted Los Blancos to prioritize securing the Brazil international's future quickly. However, several months later, minimal advancement has emerged from these discussions. The negotiations have allegedly stalled ahead of the 2025–26 campaign due to a €10 million ($11.7 million) dispute.
Per ESPN, Vinícius Júnior's advisors sought to elevate his wages to €20 million ($23.3 million) annually, plus an extra €10 million ($11.7 million) in potential performance incentives.
Real Madrid's "ultimate proposal", however, consisted of only a guaranteed €20 million ($23.3 million) annual salary without any additional variables.

The report suggests Vinícius Júnior's representatives, Fred Pena and Thássilo Soares, consider it "illogical" to accept the offer since their client currently earns approximately €17 million ($19.8 million) net annually, including performance bonuses.
The proposed raise is deemed "insufficient" to justify a contract renewal for Vinícius Júnior, who has contributed to the team's 14 trophy victories, including two Champions League crowns. The 25-year-old also claimed The Best FIFA Men's Player Award in 2024.
Rather than resuming negotiations with Real Madrid, Vinícius Júnior's representatives have chosen to suspend discussions and observe how the 2025–26 season unfolds.
Vinícius Júnior will aim to demonstrate his value for the enhanced compensation following a somewhat disappointing 2024–25 season. The Brazilian's output declined with Kylian Mbappé's arrival, as the Frenchman emerged as Los Blancos' top scorer and most productive player.
It will fall to Xabi Alonso to guide Vinícius Júnior back to his Ballon d'Or-caliber performance from the 2023–24 season. Another outstanding campaign from the winger could potentially deliver trophies to the Spanish capital while advancing his contract negotiations.
