Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez made his feelings abundantly clear when addressing Vinicius Junior's contract situation, declaring that he would "love" his talismanic attacker to remain in the Spanish capital "forever."
Yet, despite this warm sentiment, Vinicius Jr could potentially negotiate a free transfer away from Real Madrid in just six months. The Brazilian's current contract runs until the end of June 2027, meaning any club outside Spain can offer the winger a pre-contract agreement from New Year's Day onwards. Pérez, however, remains unfazed.
"There's time," the outspoken executive told El País in an interview a week ahead of the upcoming presidential elections. "I'd love for him to stay forever. He's won us the last two Champions Leagues and he identifies really well with the club. You know who doesn't like him? Those who aren't Real Madrid fans."
Those words will certainly be music to Vinicius Jr's ears, but concrete terms laid out in a formal agreement would do far more to guarantee his long-term future at the club.
What Has Vinicius Jr Said About Signing a New Real Madrid Contract?
Vinicius Jr has been quite open about what he desires from contract talks with Real Madrid: stability and continuity.
Ever since turning down Barcelona to join the Bernabéu as a teenager, Vinicius Jr's devotion to the club has been unwavering. "I've never imagined myself away from Real Madrid," he reaffirmed in an interview with CazéTV following the conclusion of the 2025–26 campaign. "I make the most of every moment that I am here because it is the club of my dreams.
"I enjoy every moment, I want to continue playing here my whole life."
However, Vinicius Jr also mirrored Pérez's relaxed approach. "I am also not in a rush to renew my contract," the 25-year-old stated. "We have an agreement until 2027, so until then we have a lot to talk about with Real Madrid, and Real Madrid with us. The club is calm about it, I'm calm, the president trusts me and I trust him. That's all there is to it."
Still, if all parties involved are so content with one another, why has no deal been reached?

Spanish media reports surrounding Vinicius Jr's future have varied wildly, with numerous outlets delivering firm yet contradictory statements with complete conviction.
Over the past 18 months, Vinicius Jr has been portrayed as everything from Madrid's highest earner to Al Hilal's next marquee signing and everything in between.
While it's evident that both the player and the club president are eager to continue their partnership, there are notable reasons why a new deal has yet to materialise. Financial disagreements are believed to be the primary stumbling block.
The Athletic, a source independent of Madrid's inner circle, reported that Vinicius Jr was seeking a salary on par with Cristiano Ronaldo's club-record earnings of around $35 million (€30 million) per year. Yet even the iconic forward never received the "renewal bonus" that his No. 7 successor was reportedly requesting.

Madrid's hesitation to meet Vinicius Jr's demands at that point was understandable. The former Ballon d'Or runner-up endured a notable dip in form toward the end of Carlo Ancelotti's tenure and struggled to adapt to Xabi Alonso's tactical system.
That difficult relationship with Alonso was another contributing factor to the stalled renewal. Following a very public display of frustration when Vinicius Jr stormed off down the tunnel after being substituted during November's Clásico, the winger reportedly informed Pérez that he would not put pen to paper on a new contract while Alonso remained in charge.
