Vinicius Junior Sparks Controversy After Explosive On-Field Confrontation
Levante's defender Unai Elgezabal has claimed that Real Madrid's winger Vinícius Júnior showed disrespect toward his team while detailing their heated confrontation during the match.
Vinícius netted the opening goal in Tuesday's commanding 4–1 win with an exquisite finish and delivered a noteworthy display that drew significant attention—following his omission from Madrid's Champions League debut against Marseille and emerging stories about his supposed dissatisfaction under coach Xabi Alonso.
Around the 60-minute mark, Vinícius surged past Elgezabal into Levante's penalty area, initiating the sequence that culminated in Elgezabal conceding a spot-kick. While Kylian Mbappé prepared for the penalty kick, the Levante defender and Vinícius engaged in a confrontation with angry exchanges.
Vinícius seemed offended by Elgezabal's remarks, reacting by placing his hands around the Levante player's throat. Team members from both sides eventually intervened to separate them as the situation escalated.
Elgezabal: It's True Vinicius Disrespected Us

"I have no intention of escalating this matter," Elgezabal commented regarding the altercation. "However, it's accurate that when we face disrespect—not only toward us, but our supporters and the club we represent, since we're human beings too—I believe we must draw the line.
"I recognize he's a talented player with great ability, but there are certain behaviors that I cannot accept personally.
"I believe I uphold and convey principles that sometimes require taking a stand. That moment wasn't appropriate; in my view, it was completely uncalled for. I prefer not to amplify this further; I'd rather end the discussion here. I stand by my teammates, and that's my final word."
Alonso praised what he described as a "crucial and significant" showing from Vinícius, who was urged to bounce back from a challenging period that started with his European benching and included his visible frustration when substituted against Espanyol.
Meanwhile, Madrid and Vinícius continue to negotiate his contract renewal. With roughly 18 months remaining on his existing agreement, both sides reportedly want to reach a new deal, but talks regarding the substantial financial terms have yet to yield results.
