What's Keeping Amad Diallo Out of Man Utd's Clash Against Hull?

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo was absent when the squad assembled ahead of Saturday's Premier League season opener against Hull City.

The 24-year-old had been a consistent presence under manager Michael Carrick during preseason, featuring in four matches, making his complete omission from the Hull trip all the more unexpected.

Bryan Mbeumo steps in to fill the void, lining up alongside Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu in United's attack. Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Šeško and Joshua Zirkzee are all named among the substitutes.

Why Is Amad Diallo Not Playing for Man Utd?

When Carrick provided his pre-match squad update on Friday, no mention was made of any potential injury concern surrounding Amad.

However, Rob Dawson reported on Saturday that Amad has been ruled out of the squad through injury. The issue was subsequently described as a "niggle," with optimism that the problem is not overly serious.

He is among four players sidelined for the fixture. Experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton and centre-back Matthijs de Ligt are both unavailable, while midfielder Mason Mount failed a late fitness assessment after sustaining a knock during preseason.

Carrick had suggested Mount had a realistic chance of featuring on Saturday, calling his participation "touch and go," but ultimately the 27-year-old was not considered fit enough to take part.

With Mount's injury thought to be minor, Carrick will be targeting his return for Sunday, Aug. 30, when Ipswich Town make the trip to Old Trafford.

De Ligt, meanwhile, has returned to training following a back injury that kept him out since December. What was initially considered a minor setback gradually became a prolonged absence, though Carrick is hopeful of welcoming the Dutch defender back into his squad in the coming weeks.
