Andy Robertson will say goodbye to Liverpool after nine successful years when the 2025–26 season concludes.
The energetic Scotsman became a cornerstone of Jürgen Klopp's high-octane Reds side that swept up every major honor, before adding a second Premier League crown during Arne Slot's debut campaign in charge.
But every era must eventually close, and Robertson is clearly no longer the force he once was. Back in 2021, Klopp hailed the Scot as the "best left back in the world." Now, the 32-year-old arguably can't even claim that title on Merseyside alone.
Nevertheless, Robertson — set to skipper Scotland at this summer's World Cup — believes he still has plenty to contribute at the top level. Prospective clubs should be mindful of his declining form, yet the prospect of landing the Scot on a free transfer will turn plenty of heads.
Here are five possible next clubs for soon-to-be free agent Robertson, ranked by a blend of fit and probability.
5. Celtic

The once-explosive left back began his professional career at Queen's Park and had a stint at Dundee United, but it was at childhood club Celtic where he truly developed.
He has never concealed his love for Celtic throughout his career, and most would expect him to pull on the green and white hoops before calling it a day.
However, that moment hasn't arrived yet. According to The Guardian's Andy Hunter, a return to Scotland is not thought to be on Robertson's radar this summer.
4. Wrexham

Eager to steer Robertson away from Celtic Park, Rangers icon Ally McCoist suggested an alternative route for his fellow Scot after Liverpool.
McCoist thinks the Hollywood-backed Wrexham would be the perfect next stop for the 32-year-old — but only if they secure promotion to the Premier League for 2026–27. Robertson has no interest in playing Championship football.
The idea has some merit, and the Scot would barely need to uproot himself, but Wrexham's top-flight ambitions suffered a serious blow when they were hammered 5–1 by in-form Southampton on Tuesday night.
The Red Dragons currently sit outside the playoff positions, with the Saints holding a two-point advantage in sixth place and having played one game less.
3. Atlético Madrid

Liverpool fans would love to see one of their modern icons take his career abroad as he enters the final chapter of his playing days.
A move to the continent holds strong appeal for those who have battled through the demands of Premier League football for the bulk of their careers, and Robertson will no doubt be drawn to the Mediterranean way of life.
Atlético Madrid have previously dipped into the British market at full back, with Kieran Trippier enjoying a short but fruitful stint in the Spanish capital.
Atléti, who appear on course to finish the 2025–26 campaign with a trophy, have struggled to find a dependable option on their left side since Filipe Luís left in 2019. They showed interest in Robertson last summer and are expected to make a move once he becomes available on a free.
While the Scot turned down their previous advances, circumstances have shifted considerably in the past year.
2. Tottenham

It appeared Robertson was on his way to north London in January, but the transfer collapsed after Liverpool were unable to bring in a suitable replacement.
Spurs fans were divided on the potential deal — some pointed to Robertson's dip in form, while others highlighted the leadership and mentality he would bring to the dressing room. He's a driven character, and a fragile Spurs side could certainly benefit from someone of his caliber.
Furthermore, it's a position where the Lilywhites are thin on options. Destiny Udogie has a history of injuries, and João Souza is an inexperienced young Brazilian brought in with an eye on the future. Their interest in Robertson made logical sense.
While supporters would rather see the club chase a younger, more cost-effective alternative, it wouldn't be shocking if Tottenham's unpopular decision-makers made a fresh attempt to sign the veteran — provided they retain their Premier League status, naturally.
1. Napoli

There's already a notable Scottish presence in Naples, and Robertson must be tempted to join the fold.
He's witnessed firsthand what life in Italy can do for a player, with Scott McTominay arriving at recent Scotland gatherings radiating the confidence of a man reborn. Billy Gilmour doesn't carry quite the same swagger, but he's another compatriot thriving in the Mediterranean sun.
Napoli are among the clubs identified by Guardian reporter Hunter as having genuine interest in Robertson, with Antonio Conte expected to move on from out-of-contract Leonardo Spinazzola this summer.
A more relaxed, tactical style of play will suit Robertson, whose pace and energy have diminished with age, making Napoli look like the perfect landing spot for the 32-year-old as he enters free agency.
