One of the most talked-about transfer stories of summer 2026 is nearing its end, with Bradley Barcola scheduled to undergo a medical ahead of his anticipated move to Liverpool.
The reigning 2024–25 Premier League champions are prepared to spend up to $166.6 million (£123 million) to secure the attacking wide player, following a breakthrough in talks with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.
The European champions had demanded a steep asking price for the 23-year-old, who netted 13 goals across all competitions last season, even after bringing in Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres and Mika Godts to bolster their attacking options.
Ultimately, both parties settled on a figure below PSG's original $197 million valuation, and new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola can now look forward to having one of the continent's most thrilling attackers at his disposal for the remainder of the season.
When factoring in add-ons, the completed Barcola deal will stand as the second-costliest transfer in Premier League history, trailing only Alexander Isak's $170 million move to Liverpool the previous summer.
Barcola's Potential Shirt Numbers at Liverpool
Barcola will have quite a few options to choose from when selecting the number to accompany his new red jersey.
Inheriting Mohamed Salah's iconic No. 11 would send a bold message. For those who prefer a lower-profile start, numbers such as 13, 16, 17, 24, 26, 27, 29, 31, and 32 are all currently unoccupied.
Liverpool have permanently retired the No. 20 shirt in memory of Diogo Jota, who passed away last summer, so that number will not be available. Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo's No. 18 and Harvey Elliott's No. 19 could potentially free up depending on transfer window activity in the final hours.

Barcola's 'Symbolic' Number Choice
Barcola has worn several different squad numbers throughout his career, including 7, 8 and 26 at Lyon, and 19 and most recently 29 at PSG. At international level, the pattern is similar, though he has consistently worn No. 12 over the past two seasons.
While his number choices may appear inconsistent, the winger actually has a very specific personal favourite.
In a conversation with Club Legacyz, Barcola described No. 29 as "symbolic" to him.
He explained: "When I was a kid, I used to play FIFA. In the story mode featuring Alex Hunter, that number took on a special meaning for me. I told myself: 'The day I turn professional, I'll wear number 29.'
"And here I am — I took it on, and I'm never giving it up."
The No. 29 shirt has been vacant at Liverpool since Arthur Melo wore it briefly during the 2022–23 campaign, and it would come as little surprise to see Barcola eagerly claim it at his official unveiling.
