Which Jersey Number Will Bryan Mbeumo Choose if He Joins Manchester United?

Manchester United are moving closer to securing their second major acquisition of the summer transfer period after reportedly reaching an agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo.

The Cameroon winger will make his way to Old Trafford in a deal valued at up to £71 million ($95.6 million), coming after the £62.5 million ($84.1 million) acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Anticipation has been mounting regarding Mbeumo's potential arrival due to the prolonged negotiation process, and while the agreed transfer fee is substantial, there's no question that Man Utd have secured one of the Premier League's most reliable and talented attacking players.

But which jersey number will Mbeumo select when he arrives at Old Trafford?

Bryan Mbeumo Jersey Number Background

Mbeumo has sported only three different numbers across two clubs during his professional career. The 26-year-old started his journey at Troyes in France, initially wearing No. 33 when he made his first-team debut, but quickly switched to No. 19 in the subsequent season. His final year at the French club saw another modification as he took over the No. 11 jersey.

Nevertheless, upon joining Brentford, Mbeumo returned to wearing the No. 19 shirt. That's the number he has consistently used for the Bees, choosing not to change even when other more prestigious numbers became available.

At international level for Cameroon, Mbeumo typically wears No. 20, though he has sometimes opted for No. 19 as well.

Man Utd Available Jersey Numbers

Matheus Cunha

Man Utd's summer acquisitions have both been assigned their new numbers for the 2025–26 campaign, with Cunha claiming departing striker Marcus Rashford's No. 10. This eliminates one potential option for Mbeumo, while young Paraguayan addition Diego León has been given the No. 30.

Fortunately for Mbeumo, his favored No. 19 is currently available at Old Trafford. Previously worn by Raphaël Varane for the Red Devils and historically used by players like Amad Diallo, Rashford, Danny Welbeck and Dwight Yorke, it appears to be the most probable choice once his transfer is finalized.

The No. 2 is also available following Victor Lindelöf's exit, though that would be an unusual selection for Mbeumo, while Christian Eriksen's departure has freed up the No. 14. The No. 20, which the Brentford player wears for his national team, is also unoccupied.

Numbers 27, 28, 29 and 31 are additional options for Mbeumo, though he's unlikely to select any of these over his preferred No. 19.

With Tyrell Malacia (No. 12), Alejandro Garnacho (No. 17) and Antony (No. 21) all expected to leave after requesting transfers, Mbeumo could potentially claim one of their numbers before their official departures—similar to how Cunha inherited Rashford's No. 10.
