Real Madrid have joined the pursuit of arguably the most sought-after teenage talent in the world right now: Yan Diomande.

The 19-year-old winger lit up the Bundesliga in 2025–26, netting 12 goals and contributing eight assists, while also claiming the division's Rookie of the Year award.

Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester City are all reportedly keen on Diomande, who further cemented his reputation with a string of standout performances at this summer's World Cup.

Despite fierce competition, reports suggest Madrid have struck a deal with Leipzig to acquire Diomande, having already agreed on personal terms with the Côte d'Ivoire star.

A transfer would add even more firepower to an already potent attack, while fulfilling president Florentino Pérez's pledge to keep recruiting elite talent. It would also reshape the squad and send shockwaves through the football world.

Here are the winners and losers of Diomande's potential Real Madrid move.

Winner: Kylian Mbappé

Mbappé stands out as one clear beneficiary of any move for Diomandé.

Mbappé's relationship — or lack of one — with Vinícius Jr has been a hot topic since his arrival from PSG two years ago. Diomande's presence on the opposite flank would help distribute the creative load and provide an additional outlet in attacking build-up play. Diomande's goal contribution figures are remarkably impressive for his age, and no Bundesliga player attempted more dribbles in 2025–26.

Notably, the teenager also led the statistic for duels contested in Germany's top flight — indicating he would be a committed defensive contributor from within Madrid's attack, helping to compensate for Mbappé's limited defensive output.

As ever at Madrid, talent alone is only part of the equation, with squad dynamics equally important.

Diomande is a tremendous prospect but is nowhere near the level of profile to challenge Madrid's talisman. Instead, the Ivorian's arrival could help Mbappé grow into a leadership role within the side, while he would join a growing group of French speakers in the squad that has already been strengthened by the addition of Ibrahima Konaté this summer.

Loser: Vinícius Jr

There is a scenario where both Diomande and Vinícius Jr flourish at Real Madrid, but the youngster's potential arrival does pile pressure on the Brazilian.

For Vinícius, the Diomande deal may not directly threaten his place in the starting lineup, but it could affect his financial standing.

With Mbappé virtually unsellable, Vinícius's position is more vulnerable, especially given he now has under a year remaining on his current deal, with contract extension talks having stalled.

While not a direct replacement, the pursuit of Diomande shifts the leverage back toward the club, with negotiations reportedly set to resume shortly.

Alexander-Arnold's debut Real Madrid season was far from a failure, but it fell short of the resounding success many had anticipated.

While injuries and factors beyond his control played a part in a subdued first year, it's evident that the former Liverpool man has performed at his best with a dynamic winger ahead of him: Mohamed Salah.

Loser: Brahim Díaz

Following a breakout season in 2023–24, Díaz has been unable to cement his status beyond a reliable squad option and into a guaranteed starter. A move for Diomande would likely push the Málaga-born 26-year-old even further down the pecking order.

A key figure for Morocco at international level, Díaz has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth on the right at club level. His profile also differs considerably from Diomande's, and he could ultimately be deemed expendable should the Ivorian arrive and make an immediate impact.

The same applies to teenager Franco Mastantuono, whose future remains uncertain following a disappointing debut campaign.

Winner: Florentino Pérez

Throughout the election campaign that dominated May and early June, it was Pérez's rival Enrique Riquelme who came out with the bold, headline-grabbing transfer pledges.

The green energy businessman made securing deals for Erling Haaland and Rodri the centerpiece of his campaign, while Pérez — the architect of the Galácticos era — remained uncharacteristically reserved.

At the beginning of the summer, the Reds were among the frontrunners to sign the 19-year-old as they searched for a worthy successor to the now-departed Salah. However, after an initial offer was turned down by RB Leipzig, they appeared to step back, with the rising star reportedly expressing a preference for PSG.

In the weeks that followed, Liverpool shifted their focus toward Bradley Barcola, who could be available if Diomande were to join the French champions.

However, should Diomande head to Madrid instead, PSG may opt to hold onto Barcola, leaving Liverpool empty-handed in their pursuit of yet another top target.
