Will Mbappe Take the Field as France Clashes with Brazil?

Kylian Mbappé's knee injury has once again grabbed attention following a controversial new development.

The Real Madrid attacker has been dealing with a persistent left knee problem for several months, unable to fully overcome the lingering issue. The revelation that Madrid's medical team scanned the wrong knee during the initial diagnosis has understandably sparked significant criticism.

Despite the alarming mistake, Mbappé made his return to action for Los Blancos just before the international break, coming off the bench in important wins against Manchester City and Atlético Madrid. Following those appearances, Didier Deschamps included him in the latest France squad for friendlies against Brazil and Colombia.

France's encounter with Brazil on Thursday is being held in the United States, one of three host nations for this summer's World Cup, but will Mbappé take part for Les Bleus?

Mbappé's substitute appearances have clearly made an impression on Deschamps. The Madrid star is not only expected to play in the upcoming match against Brazil, but L'Équipe reports he will start the friendly. The plan is for Mbappé to lead the attack for the opening 60 minutes at Gillette Stadium before being substituted as a precautionary measure.

"I'm glad to be feeling good again, to feel both my knees, and to enjoy myself," Mbappé said during his pre-match press conference—a comment that will also lift the spirits of Madrid fans ahead of some pivotal matches following the international window.

Madrid, who have ironically found their best form during Mbappé's absence, face Mallorca upon their return as they battle Clásico rivals Barcelona for the La Liga crown. They then welcome Bayern Munich for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal, a tie in which Mbappé will be key to their chances of advancing.

Mbappé may only have an hour to make his mark against the South American powerhouse on Thursday, but his drive to perform is fueled by the pursuit of a national team milestone. A brace against Brazil would see the 27-year-old draw level with Olivier Giroud's all-time France scoring record of 57 goals.
