It seems French sensation Michael Olise wasn't quite ready to bid farewell to soccer on North American soil.
The 24-year-old playmaker, who guided France to a fourth-place finish at the 2026 World Cup this summer, apparently lingered in the States and dropped into a casual pickup match at a New York City park on Wednesday evening, leaving onlookers completely speechless.
Dressed in nothing but his socks, black-and-white checkered trousers and a vivid orange t-shirt, Les Bleus' inventive midfielder ran rings around the recreational players, offering a welcome distraction from back-to-back heartbreaks during the tournament.
France had been dominant for much of the summer, fueled by an attacking brilliance largely engineered by Olise himself. The European giants were expected to reach a third-straight World Cup final and potentially lift the trophy; however, a commanding 2–0 defeat in the semifinal at the hands of eventual champions Spain shattered those ambitions. Les Bleus then fell to England in last week's high-scoring Bronze Final, 6–4.

The Bayern Munich star needed just one World Cup appearance to cement his legacy in the tournament forever.
Hot on the heels of a sensational Bundesliga campaign—in which he claimed Player of the Season honors after registering 22 goals and 31 assists—he made history for Les Bleus. Olise shattered the record for the most assists in a single World Cup, finishing the summer with seven in total. Pelé's benchmark of six, established at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, had remained untouched for 56 years before Olise broke it on his very first attempt.
The rising star was widely seen as the mastermind orchestrating the attacking play of luminaries such as prolific striker—and Golden Boot recipient—Kylian Mbappé, 2025 Ballon d'Or honoree Ousmane Dembélé, and Paris Saint-Germain wide men Bradley Barcola and Désiré Doué. It was a formidable attacking unit, and Olise was the one pulling the strings.

Olise delivered a particularly breathtaking display against Sweden in the 3–0 round of 32 triumph. He executed a slick nutmeg on Gustaf Lagerbielke to tee up Barcola for France's second goal, before threading a perfectly weighted through-ball to set up Mbappé's third. He came agonizingly close to scoring himself with an audacious bicycle kick, only for the ball to cannon off the post.
His dazzling performances on soccer's biggest stage attracted the interest of several of Europe's top clubs, including Real Madrid; however, Bayern Munich has consistently rebuffed all potential suitors. Olise remains contracted with the German club through 2029.
