Despite speculation about a potential move to Major League Soccer, Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is heading to Colo-Colo, with the Chilean club's president officially confirming the transfer.
The 40-year-old emerged as one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 World Cup, transforming from an obscure name on a roster to a player boasting nearly 30 million Instagram followers. Vozinha announced himself on the world stage in his tournament opener against Spain, producing seven saves and a clean sheet against the eventual World Cup champions.
He maintained his outstanding form throughout Cabo Verde's run to the round of 32, where Lionel Messi and Argentina managed a narrow extra time win. The early elimination did little to diminish Vozinha's reputation, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after players heading into the summer transfer window.
Many anticipated the goalkeeper would land in MLS, but Chile is his destination instead. "We can confirm Vozinha will be a Colo-Colo player," club president Anibal Mosa announced on Friday.
"We have an agreement; the final details are being worked out, but we already have confirmation from his camp and his representative. We reached an agreement based on a proposal that we put forward."
Vozinha's Inter Miami Links Fail to Materialize
Prior to Mosa's confirmation of Vozinha's next destination, reports had emerged linking the goalkeeper to reigning MLS Cup champions Inter Miami. This came as little surprise, as the Herons are typically the first club associated with any high-profile potential arrival in MLS.
The rumored transfer also appeared logical on the surface. Inter Miami's current No. 1 Rocco Ríos Novo has faced criticism for his errors, most recently a costly mistake that gifted Chicago Fire a goal in the team's first match following the World Cup break.
The Argentine started the season as understudy to 2025 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Dayne St. Clair, who failed to live up to expectations. The 29-year-old managed just two clean sheets in 14 MLS appearances this season and conceded four goals in his final outing before the World Cup.

The Herons could have benefited from a goalkeeper of Vozinha's caliber to strengthen their title defense, yet there is no indication the club ever formally pursued the Cabo Verde star. It could prove to be a significant missed opportunity for Inter Miami if both their shot-stoppers continue to struggle.
The south Florida outfit has conceded 30 goals in 17 MLS matches this season, the highest tally among the top six sides in the Eastern Conference. Vozinha, a free agent after departing Portuguese club Chaves, could have been an ideal acquisition for Inter Miami, but he will instead bring his talents to Colo-Colo.
