Wrexham Axe Four Key Players From 21-Man Squad Ahead of Championship Campaign

Wrexham have omitted four players from their 21-man squad registration for the EFL Championship campaign.

The Red Dragons were permitted to submit a maximum 25-man list for the rest of the season, requiring at least eight homegrown players and a minimum of two goalkeepers. Players aged under 21 are exempt from registration requirements, though all loan players must be registered regardless of age.

Wrexham have included Deadline Day arrivals Callum O'Hare and Joe Worrall on the list, however injured players Ben Sheaf, Liberato Cacace, and George Thomason have been left out. Manager Phil Parkinson has also chosen not to register third-choice goalkeeper Callum Burton, leaving one additional slot vacant in the squad.

Wrexham Confirm Championship Squad List

The EFL released the confirmed squad registrations on Tuesday, showing that Wrexham have kept four spots unfilled on their list.

Sheaf has been absent since the final day of last season through injury, though he has returned to training and may be available in the near future. Once fully recovered, Wrexham will be able to add him to one of the open squad positions, even with the transfer window now shut.

Thomason was sidelined for 10 weeks last month and is not expected back in action until after the October international break. Cacace made only 13 appearances for the club last season and has suffered a further setback in his rehabilitation, with no confirmed timeline for his return.

As Wrexham are not required to register three goalkeepers, there was no obligation to include Burton on the finalized list.

This also gives the Red Dragons room to register a free agent if needed, as unattached players remain eligible for registration outside of the transfer window.
