Wrexham are in negotiations to bring in Norwegian international centre-back Henrik Falchener from Viking Stavanger.
Sources indicate the Red Dragons have had two offers for the defender turned down by the Norwegian champions, with the most recent bid valued at a potential $10.9 million. Wrexham shattered their transfer record earlier this week by securing Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson for an initial sum of $10.8 million.
Viking are unwilling to part with Falchener this summer as they chase European history. The Norwegian club face Dinamo Zagreb in the first leg of their Champions League playoff on Wednesday and are already assured of a spot in the Europa League league phase at minimum.
The 23-year-old has already clocked 17 appearances for Viking this season and earned a call-up to Norway's World Cup squad. He has earned two caps at international level, including a starting role in Norway's 4–1 loss to France at Gillette Stadium in Boston.
Who Is Wrexham Target Henrik Falchener?
Falchener is a central defender currently plying his trade with Norwegian champions Viking FK. He began his youth career at local club Idrettslaget Flint before joining Strømsgodset Toppfotball. After a year there, he moved on to Sandefjord, where he made the step up to senior football.
The 23-year-old subsequently had a stint with Ørn Horten before transferring to Egersund, where he established himself as one of the standout talents in the Norwegian First Division and earned his move to Viking.
Falchener was awarded the Eliteserien Player of the Month honour in May 2025 and played an integral role as Viking clinched the league title for the first time in over 30 years.
He contributed an impressive six goals from centre-back during Viking's title-winning campaign and has carried that scoring form into the current season with two more strikes. Viking currently occupy second place in the Eliteserien standings, though they hold a game in hand over leaders Bodø/Glimt.
The central defender made his senior Norway debut against Switzerland in March before being named in their 2026 World Cup squad. He featured once as Norway advanced to the quarterfinals, where their run came to an end at the hands of England.
Where Would Falchener Fit in at Wrexham?
Phil Parkinson is on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer as he looks to bolster a defence that shipped 65 goals in the Championship last season — the seventh-highest tally in the division and the most Wrexham have conceded in a single campaign since their relegation from the Football League in 2008.
Falchener would be expected to challenge for a starting berth in Wrexham's first-choice defence, with his versatility offering Parkinson a range of tactical options. The Norwegian has featured predominantly on the left side of defence for Viking this term, though he is right-footed and capable of operating centrally when needed. He lined up as a right centre-back for Norway against France at the World Cup.
Wrexham have already offloaded Lewis Brunt to Bolton Wanderers for the second-largest fee in the club's history, while Conor Coady is also available to depart before the transfer window closes. Further defensive exits could follow in the remaining weeks of the window as the Red Dragons look to overhaul their backline.
Beyond his goal threat from centre-back, Falchener also boasts a strong defensive profile. He has won 71.2% of his duels and 75.3% of his aerial contests this season, while also ranking among the top performers for overall defensive output, tackles, and clearances.
