Wrexham Face Premier League Titans and FA Cup Legends in Blockbuster Fifth Round Draw

The success story continues for Wrexham as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney watched their team advance to the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in nearly three decades on Friday evening.

A first-half goal from Josh Windass proved sufficient to overcome Championship rivals Ipswich Town at the Racecourse Ground, creating an exciting anticipation for Monday night's fifth round draw.

Despite several major tournament favorites already being eliminated, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and defending champions Crystal Palace, there remain some exciting potential matchups that Wrexham could secure for March.

Below are the possible opponents the Red Dragons might encounter in the upcoming FA Cup round.

A glamorous matchup would be perfect for Wrexham. They've already defeated Premier League teams in this tournament, eliminating Nottingham Forest via penalty shootout in round three, but stronger top-flight opponents remain in contention.

Manchester City weren't at their best during their 2–0 fourth round victory over Salford City, but Pep Guardiola's squad, finalists in the past three years, did score 10 goals against Exeter City in round three. These teams have met just three times previously, initially in the FA Cup in 1937 and last during the 1998–99 season in the third division.

City's Premier League rivals Arsenal would present an even more formidable challenge. The league leaders have been dominant this campaign, particularly at home, and would welcome a third-ever encounter with Wrexham. The Welsh club actually defeated the record holders in the FA Cup in 1992.

Chelsea secured their fifth round spot on Friday evening and would offer a prestigious matchup for Phil Parkinson's squad. The same holds true for 2021–22 FA Cup winners Liverpool, who wouldn't need to travel extensively to reach the Racecourse Ground if drawn together.

The most favorable path forward would involve facing National League North side Macclesfield, though the sixth-tier team did eliminate defending champions Crystal Palace in round three. On paper, they represent the most manageable opposition.

Mansfield Town, who surprised Burnley in the fourth round, along with Port Vale and Grimsby Town present attractive options for extending their FA Cup run.
