Wrexham Fan Favorite Departs in Stunning Loan Move as Ryan Reynolds Delivers Heartfelt Goodbye

Beloved Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has secured a loan move to Wigan Athletic for the 2025–26 campaign, prompting emotional farewells from co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they bid goodbye to a club icon.

Since his arrival at Wales' oldest football club in 2021, Mullin established himself as the team's standout performer. The forward netted 110 goals across 172 matches, playing a crucial role in the Red Dragons' remarkable achievement of three straight promotions.

Following four seasons wearing the red jersey, Mullin is now set to join Wigan. The striker will remain in League One competition, as Wrexham prepares for their inaugural Championship season in over four decades.

This loan arrangement follows Mullin's reduced role in Phil Parkinson's tactical setup, where the striker found himself behind Jay Rodriguez, Sam Smith and Steven Fletcher in the attacking hierarchy. While Fletcher has departed the club, Ryan Hardie has arrived from Plymouth Argyle as a replacement.

The 30-year-old English forward managed only 32 total appearances during the 2024–25 season, marking his lowest tally since joining Wrexham. He secured merely nine starting positions and found the net three times during the Red Dragons' triumphant League One journey, a stark contrast to his 24-goal haul in League Two and his impressive 38 strikes in the National League previously.

Although Mullin's playing time diminished last term, his exit remains unexpected considering his iconic status at the club. Reynolds expressed his sentiments on social media, paying tribute to the player who featured alongside him in Deadpool & Wolverine.

"Seeing Mulls on loan wearing different colors is unimaginable," Reynolds posted. "Our current position wouldn't exist without his dedication, talent and commitment. You have our love."

McElhenney added his own tribute, stating, "There is only one Super Paul Mullin."

While Mullin embarks on his new journey at Wigan, Wrexham aims to maintain their upward trajectory through England's football leagues, with aspirations of reaching the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.
