Wrexham Injury Crisis: Who's Out, Who's Fighting Back, and When They'll Return

Wrexham could receive a timely boost with Danny Imray and Ollie Rathbone potentially returning to the fold ahead of their Championship clash against Derby County next week.

The Red Dragons are currently missing six players through injury, but the club is optimistic that the three-week international break will provide enough time to get at least two of them back up to speed. Phil Parkinson's men will participate in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday to maintain fitness levels as they prepare to hit the ground running upon their return to competitive action.

Wrexham appear to have a promising run of fixtures this month, and stringing together positive results could see them climb the Championship standings. The potential return of several key players to the squad could further aid their cause. Here is the latest on the club's injury situation.

Danny Imray

Imray was absent from the recent win over Southampton due to a minor hamstring complaint and is not expected to be out for an extended period. Parkinson anticipates the defender will resume training shortly and, should that go smoothly, he could feature in the squad for the Derby County fixture following the international break.

Ollie Rathbone

Rathbone has sat out the last two games after sustaining minor ankle ligament damage but is also nearing a return to training. The crowd favourite could feature against Derby County next week, although Wrexham may exercise caution given his history of ankle problems last year, which caused him to miss the opening 20 league games of the previous campaign.

George Thomason

Thomason picked up a thigh injury in the second game of the season against Watford and has been absent for the past six matches. He was initially given a 10-week recovery timeline, placing his potential comeback just before the next international break. The versatile midfielder is scheduled for a follow-up scan on his injury this Friday and is reported to be progressing well through his rehabilitation programme.

Max Cleworth

Max Cleworth (4) of Wrexham AFC looks on during a friendly match between Wrexham AFC and Leeds United.

Cleworth has been sidelined for the last two fixtures after picking up a hamstring injury in the recent home draw with Burnley. The academy product was initially ruled out for eight weeks and has already sat out two games. His return could coincide with Thomason's, though he is currently slightly further behind in his recovery and may not be fit until after the next international break.

Nathan Broadhead

Broadhead was absent from the win over Southampton after sustaining a thigh strain in training, an injury that also forced him to pull out of the Wales squad for the ongoing international break. He is trailing Cleworth in his recovery timeline and may not be available for selection until December at the earliest.

Liberato Cacace

Liberato Cacace (13) of Wrexham AFC passes a ball during a friendly match between Wrexham AFC and Leeds United.

Cacace has yet to make a competitive appearance this season due to persistent muscle issues, having managed just 13 outings during his first campaign in North Wales. Parkinson has described the left wingback as having been "really unlucky" with injuries, adding that the club will need to remain patient before he is ready to feature again.

Given his limited playing time, it remains difficult to predict when he might realistically be available for selection.
