Wrexham Lands Former Rangers Star in Latest Blockbuster Signing

Wrexham are strengthening their roster throughout the summer, with their latest acquisition being Sheffield Wednesday's midfielder Josh Windass.
The Red Dragons have been actively making signings over the past two months as they prepare for their Championship comeback. Wrexham have brought four new faces to Wales, featuring Liberato Cacace in a record-breaking transfer valued at €2.5million (£2.2 million; $2.9 million).
Aiming to achieve their fourth straight promotion this campaign, Phil Parkinson's team has secured Windass without a transfer fee. The offensive midfielder has signed a three-year deal with Wales' oldest football club, running until the conclusion of the 2027–28 season.
Windass had been with Sheffield Wednesday for five years before experiencing a highly publicized dispute with the club during the summer. The 31-year-old featured in 47 matches for the Owls in the previous campaign, netting 13 times while providing six assists.

The English player was instrumental in helping the Owls earn Championship promotion during the 2023–24 campaign. Windass netted the decisive goal in the play-off final victory over Barnsley and earned selection to the EFL League One Team of the Season.
Prior to his Sheffield Wednesday chapter, Windass represented Wigan Athletic, Rangers and Accrington Stanley. During his Scottish adventure, the midfielder appeared in 73 games and contributed 32 goals and assists combined.
Windass becomes part of Wrexham's new signings alongside Cacace, ex-Liverpool keeper Danny Ward, Ryan Hardie and George Thomason. The club created space for these five additions by parting ways with eight players in May, including beloved striker Steven Fletcher.
"I'm excited to begin this journey. I've had discussions with the manager, who outlined his seasonal objectives and team expectations, and I'm fully committed to that vision," Windass commented.
Parkinson expressed his enthusiasm about the signing: "I'm thrilled to bring Josh into the Club. He brings valuable Championship expertise and I'm eager to collaborate with him in the upcoming seasons."
