Wrexham couldn't resist using Southampton club icon Matt Le Tissier as the butt of a joke after claiming a 2–1 victory over the Saints in the EFL Championship on Saturday.
The Red Dragons entered the weekend fixture desperately needing all three points. Phil Parkinson's side had managed just one win from their opening seven matches of the 2026–27 campaign—and that solitary victory had come on the road.
Wrexham finally gave the Racehorse Ground cause for celebration when they snatched a late win courtesy of an own goal from Southampton center back Keven Schlotterbeck.
Following the final whistle, Wrexham took aim at the Saints on social media with a post that appeared to suggest they had previously been victims of Southampton's Spygate scandal from the prior season.

Wrexham drew attention to their heavy defeat against Southampton the previous season—a 5–1 thrashing on April 7. Just one month later, the Saints were exposed for spying on Middlesbrough ahead of their Championship playoff semifinal.
Southampton were subsequently charged on three counts of spying—one relating to Middlesbrough and two involving Oxford United and Ipswich Town. The club was expelled from the Championship playoffs as a consequence and handed a four-point deduction for the current season.
Wrexham are savoring the last laugh—at least for now—after beating Tonda Eckert's side, capping their social media dig with a photo of Le Tissier, widely considered the greatest player in Southampton's history. The Englishman devoted his entire playing career to the club and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Following Saturday's encounter, Wrexham climbed to 14th in the Championship standings and are now level with Southampton on 10 points after eight games.
Despite sitting in the lower half of the 24-team table, both clubs are only three points adrift of the playoff positions, which were expanded from third-to-sixth to third-to-eighth for the 2026–27 season.
Remarkably, they are also just five points behind second-placed West Ham United, who currently occupy the final automatic promotion spot to the Premier League. Wrexham will take considerable comfort in remaining so competitive despite their sluggish start to the campaign.
The Red Dragons stumbled in their opening three fixtures, picking up draws against Cardiff City and Watford before falling to Birmingham City. They appeared to rediscover their rhythm with a win over Millwall, only to drop points in each of their next three outings.
Draws against Swansea City and Burnley were followed by a humiliating 6–0 hammering at the hands of West Ham. Saturday's triumph over Southampton has restored some momentum, though Parkinson's men must now wait until October 10 to return to action against Derby County following the newly extended fall international break.
