Wrexham Set to Face Crucial Opening Five Fixtures in Championship Debut Season

Wrexham are approaching their first appearance in England's second division since the 1981–82 season and have now received their match schedule for the forthcoming campaign.
Following three consecutive promotions after investment from Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham understand they are close to reaching the Premier League, but must first tackle one of global football's most intensely contested leagues.
Getting off to a strong start is crucial for the Red Dragons, who will be eager to begin positively. However, their opening five matches present them with a formidable challenge.
Wrexham's Opening Five 2025–26 Championship Matches

Wrexham could hardly have been handed a more difficult opening match. Phil Parkinson and his squad will be anxious about their inaugural encounter against recently demoted Southampton, making the journey to St Mary's Stadium for a fascinating contest. The highly-regarded and recently-appointed Saints boss Will Still will be eager to start with a win in a match that, frankly, neither team will feel completely confident about.
Wrexham's second Championship match gives them their inaugural home game. The Red Dragons host West Bromwich Albion at the Racecourse Ground before an intimidating audience, but it represents another tough encounter. West Brom just missed out on a playoff spot last season and will anticipate being competitive again this campaign, with Ryan Mason now leading the Baggies.
Another home fixture awaits the following weekend as Sheffield Wednesday visit the Racecourse Ground. The two clubs haven't faced each other since 2006 but will meet on August 23, with the Owls having secured a mid-table position last term. Wednesday's Danny Röhl will be looking to continue developing the solid groundwork he's established in Yorkshire.
A familiar Championship adversary, Wrexham then visit Millwall to conclude August. Another team who almost secured playoff qualification last season, the Lions will present Parkinson's side with a rigorous examination, with Alex Neil having led them to an eighth-place finish after assuming control midway through 2024–25.
The September international pause will then provide Wrexham with some relief and matters become somewhat easier upon their return. Facing their first opponent who ended in the lower half of last season's Championship, they welcome Queens Park Rangers on September 13. Nevertheless, the Hoops will represent a considerable challenge under new manager Julien Stéphan, who has previously managed Ligue 1's Rennes and Strasbourg.
