Wrexham have confirmed the acquisition of Burnley center back Joe Worrall for an undisclosed fee reported to be around £2 million ($2.7 million) on the final day of the summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old becomes the club's sixth summer recruit and expressed his excitement about achieving "something special" after putting pen to paper on an initial two-year contract at the Racecourse Ground, with the option to extend for a third year.
The transfer is still pending international clearance and registration, though he could be available for selection against Millwall on Wednesday provided approval is granted by noon BST (7 a.m. ET, 4 a.m. PT) on Tuesday.
Wrexham have until the 11 p.m. BST (6 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. PT) cutoff on Tuesday, Sept. 1, to finalize any additional signings, with the Red Dragons also expected to seal a deal for Sheffield United attacking midfielder Callum O'Hare valued at £7 million ($9.5 million).
Why Wrexham Have Signed Joe Worrall
Phil Parkinson made signing a dominant center back a top priority during the summer window after feeling his squad lacked the necessary physicality at the back.
The Wrexham boss was visibly frustrated by the manner in which his side conceded two set-piece goals in last Friday's 2–1 home loss to Birmingham City, describing them as "two of the softest goals" he had seen during his five-year tenure at the Welsh club.
Wrexham targeted several central defenders throughout the summer but turned their attention to Worrall late in the window following unsuccessful negotiations for Matías Moreno, Henrik Falchener and Harry Souttar.

The former Burnley and Nottingham Forest defender arrives with extensive Championship experience and was considered better value for money than Souttar at this point in the window.
Worrall has featured in just 26 games across the past two campaigns due to persistent injury problems, yet still posted some notable defensive statistics during his limited appearances in the Premier League last season.
He averaged 13.76 defensive contributions per game, surpassing current club captain Dom Hyam, and also ranked ahead of him for clearances and blocked shots, though his duel success rate was comparatively lower.
Wrexham have already offloaded defender Lewis Brunt to Bolton Wanderers this summer, while Conor Coady had his contract cancelled on Monday. The Red Dragons have also approved the departure of fellow center back Dan Scarr to League Two outfit Salford City.

Speaking at his unveiling as a Wrexham player, Worrall told club media: "I'm really pleased to be here. I'm super excited to get my teeth into working with good players, the manager and the ownership.
