Wrexham Take On Stoke City: Everything You Need To Know Before Kickoff

Wrexham Take On Stoke City: Everything You Need To Know Before Kickoff

Wrexham are looking to end a run of back-to-back defeats and keep their EFL Championship playoff aspirations alive as they welcome Stoke City to their ground.

The Red Dragons enter the fixture having suffered losses to Southampton and Birmingham City, managing only two victories in their last seven league outings. Wrexham sit seventh in the Championship standings heading into the weekend, trailing Hull City by four points — Hull currently hold the final playoff berth.

Phil Parkinson has made clear that it would be premature to rule Wrexham out of contention, though a win this weekend is essentially a must if they are to keep their promotion push alive. With just four games remaining, Hull City will lock up sixth place at minimum if they collect nine points from those fixtures.

Stoke City come into the weekend sitting 16th, their promotion challenge having been severely hampered by injuries earlier in the campaign. They claimed a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in October and currently boast the fifth-best defensive record in the division.

Bounce Back Win to Keep Ambitions Alive

Kieffer Moore was starved of chances as Wrexham fell to defeat against Birmingham City in their last outing.

Wrexham turned in what was arguably their most disappointing display of the season in last weekend's loss to Birmingham and will need a significant step up in quality against Stoke.

Parkinson's men should be motivated to make a statement and may play with an open, attacking mindset as they look to pile pressure on Hull City above them. Stoke have managed just 12 points from their last 10 Championship matches, whereas Wrexham have accumulated 16 points over that same stretch.

Prediction: Wrexham 2-0 Stoke City

Wrexham Predicted Lineup vs. Stoke

Wrexham may ring a few changes for their clash with Stoke City

Wrexham's selection against Birmingham City last weekend misfired, with Kieffer Moore left isolated up front during a game in which the side failed to register a single shot on target.

Dominic Hyam is set to reclaim his spot in central defence after being rested, while Matty James looks likely to be paired once again with George Dobson in the middle of the park. Josh Windass is expected to come back into the attack ahead of Ollie Rathbone, with Lewis O'Brien anticipated to fill the remaining attacking midfield slot.

Kieffer Moore remains the most seasoned attacking option. Wrexham will continue to be without Zak Vyner and Ben Sheaf through injury. Nathan Broadhead has been flagged as a doubt after picking up a tight hamstring.

Wrexham predicted lineup vs. Stoke City (3-4-2-1) : Okonkwo; Cleworth, Hyam, Doyle; Kabore, James, Dobson, Thomason; O'Brien, Windass, Moore.
