Wrexham are staying composed despite the absence of summer recruits, with their weekend win against Manchester United demonstrating that the squad is more capable than many observers give them credit for.
The Red Dragons are the only Championship side yet to bring in a signing this summer and look set to depart for the United States on Wednesday without making any additions. Wrexham kicked off their preseason with a draw against Wisła Kraków before claiming a 1–0 win over Manchester United in Helsinki, continuing their positive preparations.
Phil Parkinson's squad will take on Leeds United, Liverpool, and Sunderland during their East Coast tour before launching their competitive campaign against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup first round on Friday, August 7. Wrexham then kicks off their Championship season with an away fixture against Cardiff City on Monday, August 17.
Wrexham Relaxed Over Summer Signings
With under a month remaining before the Championship season gets underway, Parkinson appears unconcerned by the club's subdued transfer activity.
"If a player becomes available—and we're clearly monitoring situations—who would strengthen this group, then we'll take a look," Parkinson said following the win over Manchester United.
"But our priority is preseason. We made 13 changes last summer and brought in a lot of players who arrived at various stages and all relocated their families. We want to focus on the group we have and keep developing them, and I think [the Man Utd friendly] is a solid indicator that we have some quality players.
"We feel there are areas of the squad where we're a bit thin to handle the demands of the Championship, which is clearly a relentless division. The most crucial thing in the Championship is having a squad that is deep and well-prepared. There are areas we feel we need to strengthen. We pinpointed those at the beginning of the summer, and we're working toward addressing them."
Midfielder George Thomason shared similar views, noting that the Wrexham squad is in a considerably stronger position compared to 12 months ago. The Red Dragons broke their transfer record three times during a $45 million spending spree last summer, bringing in 13 new players ahead of their Championship return.
"Naturally, I'd expect there will be a few new faces," Thomason said. "You obviously want the squad to be as competitive as it can be. A lot of effort went in last year, and it may have taken a few months for everyone to click, but you could see against Manchester United that we've now been together for a year. Everyone knows each other and understands how each other plays.
"We've got a solid group. There's no need to panic and rush in a load of new players. We're in a good position, and we'll continue to improve."
When Does the Championship Transfer Window Close?
Wrexham still have ample time to bolster their squad with new arrivals this summer.
The transfer window opened on Monday, June 15, and will shut at 11 p.m. BST (6 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. PT) on Tuesday, September 1.

Every club in the division must register a maximum squad of 25 players aged over 21, of whom eight must be classified as "homegrown" and two must be goalkeepers. Players under 21 do not require registration, though all loan signings must be registered regardless of age.
Wrexham are free to use as many players as they wish during the opening month of the season, before their squad list must be submitted when the summer transfer window closes.
